According to a spokesperson from Orange County Fire Rescue, teams responded to a “fully involved bus fire.”

The buses were both electric, lithium battery, buses located at the Universal Orlando bus depot.

Thankfully, no one was injured.

Universal gave this statement to News 6,

“A fire occurred earlier today in the area of our bus depot. It was quickly extinguished and no injuries were reported. We’re grateful to the Orange County fire department for their swift response. Safety remains our top priority.”

Again, no one was injured.

Recently, Universal Orlando added electric buses to their fleet, so it stands to reason that these buses were likely part of that upgrade.

As part of a broader growth initiative, the Chicago announcement underscores Universal’s commitment to pioneering new formats that transcend geography. The Horror Unleashed brand represents a bold narrative evolution — combining Universal’s century-old horror legacy with modern-day storytelling ingenuity.

Unlike seasonal haunted houses or episodic Halloween experiences, Universal Horror Unleashed is engineered for permanence. Guests can expect a deeply immersive world packed with terrifying environments, evolving storylines, and signature moments that push the boundaries of fear — all delivered with Universal’s unmistakable polish.

And the terror won’t stop at the fog-filled hallways or jump-scare chambers. Horror will spill over into every corner of the experience, from craft cocktails that dare you to sip to themed culinary bites that look as frightening as they are flavorful. Exclusive merchandise and collectibles will complete the offering, ensuring fans can take a piece of the darkness home with them.

A Global Brand, A Local Impact

Chicago’s installation arrives amidst a series of high-profile launches from Universal Destinations & Experiences. Just last year, the division cut the ribbon on the highly anticipated Universal Epic Universe in Orlando. On August 14, 2025, the brand’s first Horror Unleashed venue will open in Las Vegas — with tickets already available at UniversalHorrorUnleashed.com. In the years ahead, Universal plans to open Universal Kids Resort in Frisco, Texas (2026), and its first European theme park and resort in the United Kingdom by 2031.

Together, these expansions represent a deliberate shift: immersive storytelling as a destination, not just an attraction.

I know my daughter and son are thrilled. I would argue FNAF, like Minecraft, is one of the gaming franchises that resonate with Gen Z and Millennials. Most everyone has heard of it.

While we do not know much about it yet, we do know that Jim Henson’s Creature Shop will be doing the costumes for the house. They did the ones for the movie as well so hopefully this takes it to the next level for fans.

IGN interviewed with John Murdy (Creative Director/ Executive Producer, Universal Studios Hollywood) and Matthew Flood (Senior Show Director, Universal Orlando).

During the interview, they mostly talked about the upcoming Fallout house (that my son is also super excited about), but at the end of the interview, Five Nights at Freddy’s was mentioned.

Murdy said fans have been requesting FNAF for years. Which makes sense. It’s the perfect IP for something like HHN.

He also announced the partnership with Jim Henson’s Creature Shop saying,

“Just one little tease for you, both of our teams [FL/CA] are working directly with Henson’s Creature Shop that did all of the characters for the film. So when you experience it, it is literally like living the movie.”

This year’s HHN event is going to be amazing!

Now, there may be some nods to the franchise that could indicate this is indeed the case.

Currently, the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit attraction is still running at Universal Studios Florida. However, it will close on August 18, 2025.

Ahead of the closure, construction walls have gone up around the area, and a new sign has appeared on the walls referencing the firehouse in Ghostbusters.

The sign reads,

“Historic Preservation Act
Save New Yorks Treasures

Restoration of the Historic Engine 89 Firehouse

This project is being funded in part by the generous support of the Casey Foundation as administered by the Midtown Park Service.”

Both the New York Public Library facade and the firehouse (which used to lead to the Ghostbusters Spooktacular show) are near the walls.

This all ties back to the rumor that “Ghostbusters” could be the theme of the new attraction. Yesterday was ironically Ghostbusters Day too.

Nothing has been confirmed by Universal. It is interesting, given the rumors I have heard from those who might have some insight.

Only time will tell. For now, it is simply a rumor. I really hope it’s true!
