ABC News Suspends Terry Moran After Calling Trump Staffer A "World-Class Hater."
ABC News has suspended senior national correspondent Terry Moran following controversial remarks he made about former Trump administration deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller. Moran described Miller as a "world-class hater" in a now-deleted post on social media platform X late Saturday evening.
Responding swiftly, ABC News emphasized its commitment to unbiased reporting.
“ABC News stands for objectivity and impartiality in its news coverage and does not condone subjective personal attacks on others,” said a spokesperson for ABC News. “The post does not reflect the views of ABC News and violated our standards. As a result, Terry Moran has been suspended pending further evaluation.”
Moran, a veteran reporter who joined ABC News in 1997, has covered significant global and national events, including the September 11 attacks, the Iraq war, and multiple presidential elections. He notably interviewed President Donald Trump in the Oval Office just over a month prior to this incident.
Following Moran's controversial remarks, several Trump administration figures, including Vice President JD Vance and Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, strongly criticized Moran's statements. Leavitt labeled Moran's comments as “unhinged and unacceptable” and demanded ABC take immediate action.
Moran’s original remarks characterized Miller as deeply fueled by hatred, writing, “Miller is a man who is richly endowed with the capacity for hatred. He’s a world-class hater. You can see this just by looking at him because you can see that his hatreds are his spiritual nourishment.”
Last year Disney settled a lawsuit from Donald Trump for $16 million after ABC News correspondent George Stephanopoulos repeatedly stated that Trump was found liable by a jury for “rape,” which was not true.
ABC News will continue to evaluate Moran’s suspension and has not announced any further steps at this time.
