Rosario Dawson and Natasha Liu Bordizzo lead the new season, with Lars Mikkelsen back as Grand Admiral Thrawn. Rory McCann takes over the role of Baylan Skoll following the death of Ray Stevenson in 2023.
Ahsoka has a return date.
Season 2 premieres on Disney+ on January 20, Lucasfilm confirmed with a new trailer at D23.
Rosario Dawson returns as Ahsoka Tano, with Natasha Liu Bordizzo back as her Jedi apprentice Sabine Wren.
What happens in Ahsoka Season 2
The season picks up with the two leads stranded and looking for a way back.
Ahsoka and Sabine travel across what Lucasfilm calls a mysterious and perilous world, trying to find their way home. Their friends meanwhile face Grand Admiral Thrawn, played by Lars Mikkelsen, and his allies, who intend to push the New Republic into war.
Hayden Christensen returns as Anakin Skywalker.
Rory McCann takes over as Baylan Skoll
The role required recasting under difficult circumstances.
Ray Stevenson played Baylan Skoll in the first season and died in 2023, shortly before the series premiered. The season was dedicated to him.
Rory McCann takes the role for Season 2. Lucasfilm has not detailed how the transition is handled on screen.
Recasting after a performer’s death is one of the harder calls a production makes, and there is no version of it that satisfies everyone. Baylan was left in a position central to the story’s unresolved threads, which is presumably why continuing the character was chosen over writing him out.
Where Ahsoka Season 2 sits in the Star Wars timeline
The series runs after Return of the Jedi, in the same period as The Mandalorian.
That connection matters more this year. Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu reaches Disney+ on September 2, four months before Ahsoka returns, which gives Disney+ two properties in the same era arriving in the same stretch.
Thrawn’s return as a threat to the New Republic is the thread most likely to tie them together.
What else is on Disney+ before Ahsoka returns
January is a while out, and the schedule between now and then is full.
The Mandalorian and Grogu and an animated LEGO Star Wars special both arrive September 2. VisionQuest premieres October 14. Percy Jackson and the Olympians returns November 20.
Ahsoka closes that run on January 20, which puts a Star Wars release at both ends of Disney+’s fall and winter slate.
