Disney’s calendar shows Animal Kingdom opening at 9 a.m. on Nov. 15 instead of 8 a.m., with no reason given, while a new permit hints at work at Theater in the Wild.
Early birds, take note. Disney’s Animal Kingdom is listed to open an hour later than usual on Sunday, Nov. 15.
BlogMickey spotted the change on Disney’s park hours calendar. On that day, Early Theme Park Entry starts at 8:30 a.m., and the park opens to everyone at 9 a.m. It closes at 6 p.m. A normal Animal Kingdom day starts at 8 a.m., with Early Theme Park Entry at 7:30 a.m. for guests staying at Disney resort hotels.
Inside the Magic reports that Nov. 15 is the only 9 a.m. opening on the calendar from late October into early 2027. Disney hasn’t explained it. BlogMickey even floated the idea that it could be a data entry error that gets fixed later.
Here’s a full show from inside the Tree of Life from Away We Go:
Why is Animal Kingdom opening late on Nov. 15?
Nobody knows yet. BlogMickey says the calendar entry “lists no special event of note,” and we couldn’t find a runDisney race, private event or other reason tied to that morning.
Disney has shifted openings before for good reasons. EPCOT opened at 10 a.m. on Oct. 23 and Oct. 25 for Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend. Those changes came with an event attached. This one doesn’t.
KennythePirate pointed to a fair reminder from Disney’s own fine print. Walt Disney World “reserves the right to make changes to operational hours as needed and without notice.”
How do the other November Sundays compare?
Here are Animal Kingdom’s posted Sunday hours for November, per Inside the Magic and BlogMickey:
Nov. 1: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Nov. 8: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Nov. 15: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Nov. 22: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Nov. 29: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The day before is one of the longest on the calendar. Saturday, Nov. 14, runs 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. So if your trip is flexible, Saturday gets you three more hours of park time than Sunday.
BlogMickey also lists Extended Evening hours on Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. for eligible guests through the end of the year.
Is rope drop still worth it on Nov. 15?
Probably less so. An 8 a.m. opening rewards people who roll out of bed early, since you can knock out two or three rides before the crowds show up. A 9 a.m. start gives everyone else time to catch up.
If Avatar Flight of Passage is your must-do, Early Theme Park Entry at 8:30 a.m. is still your best shot. Otherwise, consider swapping Animal Kingdom to a different day, or plan a late breakfast and hit the park after the first wave.
What’s happening at Theater in the Wild?
There’s more Animal Kingdom news this week. WDW News Today reports that Walt Disney World filed a “General Construction” permit for Theater in the Wild on Oct. 27. It names MLC Theming, a company known for rockwork, scenic painting and themed facades. The permit expires in a year.
Disney hasn’t said what the work is. Finding Nemo: The Big Blue... and Beyond! is still playing there, with shows from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
That theater has seen a few acts. Finding Nemo: The Musical opened in 2007 and ran until March 2020. The shorter Big Blue... and Beyond! version opened in June 2022.
What else is changing at Animal Kingdom?
Plenty. Tree of Life Awakenings returns Sunday, Nov. 1, BlogMickey reports, with showtimes posted only through Nov. 7 so far. More dates will likely be added as the holidays get closer.
Next door, DinoLand U.S.A. is gone, and Tropical Americas is under construction. Disney’s website quietly dropped the land’s 2027 opening year in September, Disney Tourist Blog reported. BlogMickey says its understanding is that 2027 is still the plan.
So, one late morning, one mystery permit and a whole new land on the way. Animal Kingdom is busy, even if it’s sleeping in once.
