Marvel’s new Avengers: Doomsday poster from San Diego Comic-Con Malaga puts Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom on his throne with three masked Latverian witches, and Marvel isn’t saying who they are.
A new Avengers: Doomsday poster puts Robert Downey Jr.‘s Doom on his throne, with three masked figures standing behind him. They’ve been billed as Latverian witches, after Doom’s home country of Latveria.
Marvel Studios shared it over the weekend, tied to San Diego Comic-Con Malaga in Spain. The movie opens in theaters Friday, Dec. 18.
Who are the witches on the Avengers: Doomsday poster?
Marvel hasn’t said. The three witches wear red, green, and purple robes, and their faces are covered.
That hasn’t stopped fans from guessing. The popular theory goes by color: red for the Scarlet Witch, green for Sylvie from Loki, and purple for either Agatha Harkness or Clea.
None of those actors have been announced for Doomsday. Treat all of it as fan theory until Marvel says otherwise.
But it makes sense that if it is them, Marvel doesn’t want to ruin the reveal.
Who is Doctor Doom?
Victor von Doom is the ruler of Latveria and the Fantastic Four’s biggest villain. Stan Lee and Jack Kirby introduced him in Fantastic Four No. 5 in 1962.
He’s a genius inventor and a sorcerer, which makes him a very bad person to annoy.
Why would Doctor Doom have witches?
In the comics, magic runs in Doom’s family.
His mother, Cynthia von Doom, was a sorceress whose soul ended up in the hands of Mephisto. Trying to free her soul drives a lot of his story.
So witches in Doom’s throne room make sense. Magic is one of the oldest parts of who he is.

What did Disney show at Comic-Con Malaga?
Disney’s panel ran on Saturday, Oct. 3. Anthony Mackie, David Harbour and Winston Duke showed up in person, and directors Joe and Anthony Russo sent a recorded message.
The panel did have plenty from the rest of Disney’s slate:
the first 22 minutes of VisionQuest
Hexed
Pixar’s Gatto, out March 5, 2027, from Luca director Enrico Casarosa, with Mark Ruffalo and Laurence Fishburne in the voice cast
Ice Age: Boiling Point, out Feb. 5, 2027
When does VisionQuest come out on Disney+?
VisionQuest premieres on Disney+ on Wednesday, Oct. 14, with Paul Bettany back as Vision.
Fans in Malaga got the first 22 minutes early. Everyone else waits nine more days.
When does Avengers: Doomsday come out?
Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters Dec. 18. The Russo brothers directed it, and it’s the first time Downey has played Doom after years as Tony Stark.
It was supposed to open May 1, 2026, before Disney pushed it to December.
The cast list Marvel revealed in 2025 is huge. Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Florence Pugh, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are all on it, along with Mackie, Harbour and Duke.
How to catch up before Avengers: Doomsday
All four earlier Avengers movies stream on Disney+.
If you’d rather see one on a big screen, Avengers: Endgame Encore was still in theaters last weekend, at No. 7 with about $4.4 million. That re-release is what pushed Endgame past Avatar as the highest-grossing movie ever.
What comes after Avengers: Doomsday?
Avengers: Secret Wars, which Marvel has dated for Dec. 17, 2027. That’s one day short of a year after Doomsday.
Three masked witches and no names is either a big tease or a very fancy costume party. We’ll know in December.
