“Avengers Endgame: Encore,” the re-release of the 2019 blockbuster with new footage, opened at No. 1 in North America this weekend with $26 million, per Disney. It added $60 million overseas for an $86 million global opening.
Disney says that’s the second-biggest global debut ever for a re-release.
How much did Avengers Endgame: Encore make?
$86 million worldwide in its first weekend, Sept. 25-27, per The Walt Disney Company.
That breaks down to $26 million in the U.S. and Canada and $60 million from international markets. The movie played in more than 3,000 North American theaters.
It knocked Sony’s “Resident Evil” out of first place. That film fell to No. 2 with $23.3 million in its second weekend, per Boxoffice Pro.
Is Endgame Encore the biggest re-release ever?
Not quite, but it’s close.
Only “Titanic 3D” in 2012 had a bigger global opening as a re-release, per Boxoffice Pro, citing Disney’s estimates. In North America, Encore’s $26 million ranks third among re-releases, behind the 1997 “Star Wars” reissue ($35.9 million) and “The Lion King 3D” in 2011 ($30.2 million), per ComingSoon.
It opened at No. 1 in China with $13.5 million, and it topped the charts in the U.K., Mexico, Italy and Brazil too.
Is Avengers: Endgame now the highest-grossing movie of all time?
Not yet. It’s No. 2.
The weekend pushed Endgame’s lifetime total to $2.885 billion, per Disney. That leaves it just $39 million behind “Avatar.”
Endgame actually held the top spot for a while after its 2019 run, until an “Avatar” re-release in China took the crown back in 2021. If Encore keeps selling tickets for a few more weekends, that gap could close.
What’s new in Avengers Endgame: Encore?
New footage that sets up “Avengers: Doomsday.” How much you see depends on where you watch it. Encore includes “between 2 and 8 new minutes of material teasing the upcoming crossover event,” depending on the type of theater, per Boxoffice Pro.
Director Anthony Russo said the team didn’t touch the original movie. “We weren’t going to mess with what that movie is,” he said of the new additions, per Disney.
Premium screens did a lot of the work. Infinity Vision premium large-format screens, more than 1,300 of them, brought in about 52% of the opening weekend, per Disney. IMAX added $13.7 million worldwide, per ComingSoon.
When does Avengers: Doomsday come out?
Dec. 18, 2026. Anthony and Joe Russo are directing, and Robert Downey Jr. is back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this time as Doctor Doom, per Disney.
That’s what makes Encore more than a nostalgia trip. It’s a big-screen warmup for the next Avengers movie, less than three months out.

More than $35.075 billion worldwide across 38 films, per The Walt Disney Company. Encore’s weekend is what pushed it past the $35 billion mark.

Audiences seem to think so. The re-release holds a 96% Verified audience score on Rotten Tomatoes from more than 2,500 ratings, and PostTrak moviegoers gave it five out of five stars, per ComingSoon.
