Disney World has a new resident with tiny hooves and big ears. A female zebra foal was born to mom Aziza at Animal Kingdom Lodge, and she’s already out on the savanna. Here’s how to spot her.
Disney World just got a little more striped. A baby zebra was born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, and she’s a girl.
Disney’s animal care team shared the news on Instagram on Nov. 4. The foal’s mom is a zebra named Aziza, and the little one is already out on the resort’s Arusha savanna, according to WDWNT and Laughing Place. Laughing Place says she’s “out exploring,” which is exactly what you want to hear about a brand-new baby anything.
Disney hasn’t announced a name yet. It also hasn’t shared her exact birth date.
What do the baby zebra photos show?
The photos Disney shared are pretty much peak cute. According to WDWInfo, one shows the foal standing close to Aziza. Another has the pair snuggled up together. A third catches the baby resting on the ground, showing off her small hooves, oversized ears and fresh stripes.
Laughing Place notes that zebras typically walk almost right after they’re born. That’s handy when you live on a savanna. It also means she’s ready for her close-up already.
The posts drew plenty of attention on X, too. Disney fan account @DrewDisneyDude’s post about the birth was one of the most-liked posts on our Disney parks list on Wednesday afternoon.
Can you see the baby zebra at Animal Kingdom Lodge?
Maybe. Just don’t plan your whole trip around it.
Animal Kingdom Lodge is one of Disney World’s deluxe resorts, and its whole thing is the view. The resort has four savannas: Uzima, Arusha and Sunset near the main Jambo House building, plus Pembe at Kidani Village. Together they’re home to more than 200 animals from more than 30 African species, according to an Undercover Tourist resort guide.
Guests can watch from an overlook at the back of the main lobby, from a lookout near the Uzima pool and from room balconies with savanna views. Some rooms face the animals directly, which is why savanna view rooms cost more.
The catch? The animals have a lot of room to roam. WDWInfo points out there’s no guarantee you’ll spot the newest arrival on any given visit. Patience helps. So does a good pair of binoculars.
Has Disney World had other animal babies lately?
Yes, and it’s been a busy fall. WDWNT reported that three nyala calves were welcomed at Animal Kingdom Lodge in late October. Nyala are a type of African antelope with striking stripes of their own, so the savanna is basically turning into a stripe convention.
This isn’t the resort’s first zebra baby boom, either. Disney celebrated a “Summer of (Zebra) Stripes” back in 2024, when several zebra foals were born at Walt Disney World. Those births were a big hit with fans, and this one is shaping up the same way.
Why are there zebras at a Disney hotel?
Animal Kingdom Lodge isn’t just a hotel with a fancy backyard. It sits right next to Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park, and both are accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, the group that sets care standards for zoos across the country. The park and the lodge have held that accreditation for years.
So the zebras, giraffes and antelope out on the savanna get zoo-level care. Births like this one are a good sign the herd is healthy and settled.
It’s also a pretty great perk for hotel guests. Not many hotels can say a zebra was born out back this week.
When will Disney name the baby zebra?
Disney hasn’t said yet. When the 2024 foals arrived, fans followed along on Disney’s social accounts for updates, and we’d expect the same here. We’ll keep an eye out and update you when she gets a name.
In the meantime, if you’re staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge this fall, the lobby overlook is the easiest place to start looking. Bring some patience. If you see a very small zebra sticking close to her mom, say hi to Aziza’s new girl for us.
