Buc-ee’s is building in Georgia, Kansas, Tennessee, Texas, Louisiana and North Carolina next year. Two are first-ever stores for their states, and Indiana is still waiting on local approval.
The beaver is on the move again.
Buc-ee’s has six new travel centers lined up for 2027, per The Independent on Sept. 22. The list: Forsyth, Georgia; Kansas City, Kansas; Gallaway, Tennessee; Boerne, Texas; Ruston, Louisiana; and Mebane, North Carolina.
Kansas City will be Kansas’s first-ever Buc-ee’s, and Ruston will be Louisiana’s first, per The Independent.
Buc-ee’s CEO Arch “Beaver” Aplin III had a pointed line about where the chain builds. Speaking at the Benton, Arkansas, grand opening, he said, “I’m starting to realize life’s too short to try to build in places that people don’t appreciate what you’re bringing.”
Where are the new Buc-ee’s locations opening in 2027?
Six towns, mostly along big interstates:
Forsyth, Georgia, on I-75 south of Atlanta
Kansas City, Kansas, near I-70 and West Village Parkway, about 74,000 square feet
Gallaway, Tennessee, east of Memphis
Boerne, Texas, northwest of San Antonio
Ruston, Louisiana, at I-20 and Tarbutton Road, 70,000-plus square feet and 100-plus fuel pumps
Mebane, North Carolina, between Greensboro and Durham
The Kansas City and Ruston details are from Fox Business. Ruston is set for mid-2027, and Mebane is expected late in the year.
Is Buc-ee’s coming to Indiana?
Maybe. It isn’t on the 2027 list.
Greenwood, Indiana, south of Indianapolis, “may become the recipient of the state’s first Buc-ee’s if its local leadership approves a plan for a new site,” The Independent reported on Sept. 22. At that point, the approval was still pending.
How many Buc-ee’s are there now?
About 55 locations in a dozen states as of May, per Fox Business, and it’s grown since.
This year alone, Buc-ee’s opened its first stores in Arizona (Goodyear, in June) and Arkansas (Benton, in August). The Goodyear store is 74,000 square feet with 120 fuel pumps. Wisconsin gets its first in early 2027 in Oak Creek, near Milwaukee.
Aplin’s “life’s too short” comment came at that Benton opening. He didn’t name the places he meant.
Why do people love Buc-ee’s so much?
The bathrooms, the brisket and the beaver nuggets, roughly in that order.
Buc-ee’s stores are huge. The newer ones run about the size of a big-box store, with a hundred-plus gas pumps, famously clean restrooms, a barbecue counter carving brisket sandwiches, and a wall of Buc-ee’s-branded everything. Beaver Nuggets, the caramel-coated corn puffs, are the signature snack.
The chain started in 1982 in Lake Jackson, Texas, and spent most of its life as a Texas-only thing. The push into other states only started in the last few years, which is why first-in-state openings tend to draw big crowds.
For a lot of families, a Buc-ee’s is the official halfway point of a road trip.
Is there a Buc-ee’s on the way to Disney World?
Yes. Buc-ee’s already has Florida stores, including its well-known Daytona Beach location on I-95, so plenty of road trips to Orlando already pass one.
The new Forsyth, Georgia, store on I-75 would add another for families driving down from Atlanta and the Midwest. It’s roughly six hours from Forsyth to Walt Disney World.
So if your kids already know the drive by which Buc-ee’s is next, there’s one more to add to the list in 2027.
