Burger King India just launched a Doctor Doom menu with black-bun Whoppers, Loki and Magneto burgers and Shuri fries. Here’s what’s on it, and whether the U.S. gets one.
Doctor Doom has taken over a burger chain. Just not yours, probably.
Burger King India launched a full Avengers: Doomsday menu on Tuesday, Nov. 3, about six weeks before the movie opens. The star of the show is a Doomsday Whopper on a black glazed bun, which is about as subtle as Doom himself.
The chain calls itself the movie’s “Official Restaurant Partner” in India. Its release, datelined Mumbai, says the menu is available “from today across Burger King restaurants nationwide.” That means India, not the U.S.
What’s on the Burger King Avengers: Doomsday menu?
There are 10 items, and almost all of them carry a Marvel name. Here’s the full lineup from Burger King India’s announcement:
Doomsday Whopper Extra Crunch Veg
Doomsday Whopper Flame-Grilled Chicken
Loki Molten Cheese Burger
Cyclops Soft Paneer Burger
Magneto Crunchy Chicken Burger
Shuri Vibranium Fries
Falcon Fearless Chicken Wings
Magneto Boneless Chicken
Thor Thunder Nuggets
Fantastic Fizz (the drink)
Yes, Magneto gets two items. He’s a mutant. He can multitask.
Here’s the teaser Burger King India posted on Oct. 30, before the menu dropped:
Why is the Doomsday Whopper bun black?
The release says the black glazed buns are meant to channel Doctor Doom. The color comes from “plant-derived, natural food colour,” according to the chain.
The Whopper itself is “dunked in a bold, spicy garlic flavour,” and Burger King calls that combo “a first for Burger King.” The release says “spicy garlic flavour cues run across the menu,” so expect garlic on more than just the burger.
You might have seen posts calling this the menu with “green” food. That part is real. In Burger King India’s own promo art, the patty on the Extra Crunch Veg version is bright green, sitting under that black bun. The release never mentions it.
How much does the Doomsday menu cost?
Burger King India’s release says burgers start at 199 rupees. That’s roughly $2 at current exchange rates, a number that makes U.S. drive-thru menus look rude.
One Indian trade outlet, afaqs, reported that items start at 99 rupees, or about a dollar. That figure may cover a side, but no source we found spells it out. Item-by-item prices weren’t in the release.
The food comes in Doom-themed boxes with a crown inspired by the villain. Select meals add a limited-edition tumbler, and the chain says more merch will roll out “in phases.” The Burger King India app also has a pre-booking window for a Limited-Edition Doomsday Meal with a collectible tumbler “at a special price.” No price was listed for that one either.
What did Burger King India say about the Marvel deal?
Chief marketing officer Kapil Grover said in the release that the chain “saw an opportunity to bring one of the world’s biggest fandom universes and the Cult of Whopper through a special experience.”
“From striking Doomsday Whoppers to themed packaging and collectable merchandise, we have created an experience that goes well beyond the meal,” he said.
There’s no end date. It’s billed as a limited edition, so don’t wait around if you happen to be in Mumbai.
Is there a Burger King Doomsday menu in the U.S.?
No, at least for now. Burger King hasn’t announced a U.S. version, and Attractions Magazine’s roundup of Doomsday food deals says the promotion has only been announced for India. That could change.
American fans aren’t going hungry, though. Dunkin’ launches its Avengers: Doomsday lineup nationwide on Wednesday, Nov. 4, with themed drinks and doughnuts and a Doctor Doom Munchkins tin. Jack in the Box follows on Thursday, Nov. 5 with a Doomsday Dipping Box and blind-bag magnets, according to Sporked.
Movie theaters are in on it too. AMC and Regal showed off Doom-themed popcorn buckets and cups in late October.
When does Avengers: Doomsday come out?
Avengers: Doomsday opens in U.S. theaters on Friday, Dec. 18. India gets it a day earlier, on Dec. 17, per Burger King India.
Robert Downey Jr. plays Doctor Doom, which is still a sentence that takes a second to process. Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell are back too, and the cast also includes Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn and Kelsey Grammer as Beast, according to Variety and Deadline.
Disney said this week that presales for the movie have topped $50 million domestically. The black-bun Whopper may stay overseas, but the hype sure won’t.
