Burger King launches a Game Day Menu on Oct. 6 with a Pretzel Burger built on a SUPERPRETZEL bun and Chicken Fries served with nacho cheese sauce. A four-week sweepstakes pays out weekly cash prizes up to $5,000.
Burger King is putting a quarter-pound burger on a soft pretzel bun.
The Game Day Menu arrives at participating U.S. restaurants on Tuesday, Oct. 6, with two new items built around stadium food.
What’s on the menu
Two items.
The Game Day Pretzel Burger is a flame-grilled quarter-pound beef patty with American cheese, crispy bacon, crispy onions, and nacho cheese sauce, served on a SUPERPRETZEL Soft Pretzel Bun.
That’s a real licensing move. SUPERPRETZEL is the brand most people know from mall food courts and concession stands, which is exactly the association Burger King is reaching for.
Chicken Fries with Nacho Cheese Sauce is the second item. Standard Chicken Fries, served with nacho cheese for dipping.
Burger King has not announced pricing for either.
The sweepstakes pays out weekly
Running alongside the menu is a four-week digital sweepstakes for Royal Perks members.
Weekly prizes include:
Cash prizes up to $5,000
$20 BK Digital Gift Cards
Mini Coolers
Football and Net Sets
Cornhole Sets
You can enter with a qualifying purchase or by redeeming Royal Perks crowns. No purchase is necessary, and a free entry method exists in the official rules.
The sweepstakes runs through Nov. 1. It’s open to Royal Perks members 18 and older in the 48 contiguous states and D.C., with a 19-and-up requirement in Alabama and Nebraska. Alaska and Hawaii are excluded.
Details go live at bk.com/Gameday on Oct. 6.
Nacho cheese is doing a lot of work here
Worth noticing what connects the two items.
Both of them are nacho cheese sauce. The burger has it. The Chicken Fries come with it on the side.
Adding one new sauce to existing products creates two “new” items with minimal operational change. The pretzel bun is the only genuinely new component, and that came from an outside brand.
The company has been beating McDonald’s
Here’s the context that explains the urgency on both sides.
In the most recent quarter, Burger King posted 8.5% U.S. same-store sales growth. McDonald’s posted 0.8%.
That’s more than 10 times the growth at a chain a fraction of the size.
McDonald’s responded last week by announcing an $8.5 billion investment plan built around hand-breaded chicken, AI systems and remodeled restaurants, with executives openly discussing the need to win customers back.
Burger King’s answer appears to be simpler. Keep launching things.
Why game day matters to fast food
October is good timing for this.
NFL and college football seasons are both underway, which means weekly occasions where people order food for a group. That’s a higher check size than a single lunch order, and it repeats every weekend through January.
Chains that can get into that habit early keep it. Burger King is explicitly aiming at it.
“Game day is about more than just the game. It’s about bringing people together over delicious and fun food,” said Joel Yashinsky, chief marketing officer for Burger King US and Canada.
What to know before Oct. 6
Availability is at participating locations nationwide, which means not every restaurant will carry it.
Burger King has not announced an end date for the Game Day Menu, though the sweepstakes ends Nov. 1 and limited-time menus often wind down around the same point.
