Wells Enterprises, the maker of Blue Bunny, announced Butterfinger ice cream cones and pints Oct. 5, along with 100 Grand, Baby Ruth and Lemonhead treats, for convenience stores starting late 2026.
Butterfinger ice cream is getting out of the bar.
Wells Enterprises, the Iowa company behind Blue Bunny and Halo Top, announced Butterfinger Ice Cream Pints and Cones on Monday, Oct. 5. They’re part of a new lineup of candy-brand frozen treats headed to convenience store distributors in late 2026 and early 2027.
“Being part of the Ferrero family gives us an opportunity to accelerate cross-category collaborations and turn iconic candy brands into authentic, frozen offerings,” said Isabella Chia, Wells’ chief marketing officer. Translation: the company that owns Butterfinger also owns the ice cream factory.
What’s in Butterfinger ice cream cones and pints?
Butterfinger-flavored ice cream mixed with what Wells calls “the brand’s iconic crispety, crunchety, peanut-buttery goodness in every bite.”
The pints hold 16 fluid ounces. The cones are 3.04 fluid ounces each, and the box in Wells’ product photo holds four cones, each one capped with chocolate and Butterfinger pieces.
Wells hasn’t announced a price for either one.
When can you buy Butterfinger ice cream cones?
At a convenience store first. Wells is pitching the new lineup to convenience stores, with a “broader rollout to convenience distributors in late 2026 and early 2027,” according to its announcement.
Store buyers get the first look this week at the NACS Show, the big convenience store trade show, running Oct. 6 to 9 in Las Vegas. Ferrero and Ferrara are handing out samples of some of the new treats at their booths.
Wells’ Nutella and Kinder Bueno cones took the same route last year. Those hit convenience stores Dec. 1, 2025, before a wider retail rollout in spring 2026, Wells said at the time.
What other candy ice cream is Wells making?
Butterfinger has company. Here’s the rest of the new lineup:
100 Grand Ice Cream Pints and Cones: caramel-flavored ice cream with chewy caramel and chocolatey crispy crunchies
Baby Ruth Ice Cream Pints: nougat-flavored ice cream with caramel and chocolatey roasted peanut halves
Lemonhead Core Pops: lemon frozen pops with a Lemonhead candy center, the brand’s first frozen treat
Kinder Bueno White Frozen: hazelnut frozen dessert with a Kinder Bueno White disk, in cones and tubs
Trolli Gummi Pop Electric Blueberry Lemonade: already out this fall
The Lemonhead pops are the odd one out, and maybe the most fun. A sour candy center inside a frozen lemon pop is a lot of lemon.
Aren’t there already Butterfinger ice cream bars?
Yes, and they’re the reason this is happening. Wells and Ferrero put Butterfinger, Baby Ruth and 100 Grand ice cream bars in freezers nationwide earlier this year, in six-packs with a suggested price of $5.99, Refrigerated & Frozen Foods reported.
The new cones and pints take all three brands into new shapes. Baby Ruth gets a pint but no cone, at least for now.
“By combining Wells’ legacy with the strength of Ferrero and Ferrara brands, we’re delivering a differentiated innovation lineup,” said Ken Reuter, Wells’ chief customer officer.
Who is Wells Enterprises?
The largest privately held ice cream maker in the U.S., according to the company. Wells started in 1913 and is based in Le Mars, Iowa, which calls itself the Ice Cream Capital of the World.
It makes more than 200 million gallons of ice cream a year, including Blue Bunny, Halo Top, Bomb Pop and Blue Ribbon Classics. Wells is part of the Ferrero Group, the same family of companies that owns Butterfinger, 100 Grand, Baby Ruth, Lemonhead and Trolli.
No price yet, and no store list. Convenience stores get first dibs.
