The first real listen to Gambit's updated Cajun accent for Avengers: Doomsday came in a Dunkin' commercial, and Channing Tatum told People he "definitely flirted" with his robot co-star.
The first real listen to Gambit's new Avengers: Doomsday voice didn't come from a Marvel trailer. It came from a doughnut ad.
Channing Tatum plays Gambit again in "MUNCHKIN Incursion," a Dunkin' commercial that debuted Wednesday, Nov. 4. His co-star is H.E.R.B.I.E., the Fantastic Four's robot sidekick from The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Gambit's opening line is "Doomsday is here, mon ami." Entertainment Weekly called the ad the most anyone has heard of Tatum's updated Gambit voice.
Early reviews call it an upgrade. EW noted his Deadpool & Wolverine Gambit was intentionally incomprehensible to fit that R-rated comedy. GamesRadar+ writer Bradley Russell called the new take "a fully-formed character instead of a caricature."
Here's Dunkin's "MUNCHKIN Incursion" ad:
What happens in the Dunkin' Gambit commercial?
Gambit, reaching for an Iced Captain'ccino, asks H.E.R.B.I.E. if he has "any ideas up in that tin-can head of yours."
The robot uses Doomsday and Avenging MUNCHKINS to explain the plot of Avengers: Doomsday in robot-speak. Worlds from across the Marvel multiverse are about to crash into each other, EW reported.
That collision is called an incursion. Hence "MUNCHKIN Incursion," which Tatum told People is "one of the funnier two words put together."
Marvel explaining its multiverse with doughnut holes might be the clearest it's ever been. We're not complaining.
What did Channing Tatum say about the Dunkin' ad?
Tatum told People he knew the concept would be "hilarious" as soon as he heard it. The fun, he said, was dropping Gambit anywhere outside the X-Men world.
He also played up Gambit's flirty side. "I definitely flirted with H.E.R.B.I.E a little bit," Tatum told People. Gambit doesn't care who or what you are, he explained. He flirts anyway.
Tatum likes acting opposite a robot because there's barely any expression to read, so he could ad-lib almost anything.
He said he "ate a ton of Munchkins" during the shoot. His real Dunkin' order is savory, though. Tatum told People he and his daughter used to split six hash browns on the way to her elementary school.
Why does Gambit sound different in Avengers: Doomsday?
Tatum has been warning us. He told Variety he's "not gonna go full Cajun" this time, because directors Anthony and Joe Russo want the movie funny but not full Deadpool.
In a September 2025 interview with EW, he said, "That accent has a big spectrum." His dad is from New Orleans, he said, and some Louisiana accents are much easier to understand than others.
Tatum grew up in Mississippi and told People he used to throw cards at his friends while watching the X-Men cartoon. He first played Gambit in 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine, years after a solo Gambit movie at Fox stalled out when Disney bought the studio.
Where are the Dunkin' Avengers: Doomsday restaurants?
The ad is part of a bigger Dunkin' push. Four Dunkin' shops get Marvel makeovers that last through early December:
Los Angeles (Nov. 17): Fantastic Four theme at 6201 Hollywood Blvd.
Chicago (Nov. 17): X-Men theme at 10 West Chicago Ave.
New York City (Nov. 18): Avengers theme at 102 8th Ave.
Boston (Nov. 18): Doctor Doom takeover at 209 N Harvard St. in Allston
So Boston, Dunkin's home turf, gets the villain. Bold choice.
The Doomsday drinks, doughnuts and collectibles also hit participating stores nationwide Nov. 4. We broke down the full menu and merch prices in October. The headliner is a $14.99 Doctor Doom Munchkins tin that comes with a 25-count Munchkins order.
What other Avengers: Doomsday tie-ins are out?
Jack in the Box: a Doomsday dipping box arrives Nov. 5.
KFC: a Doctor Doom menu starts Nov. 9 in more than 100 countries, but not the U.S.
Dave & Buster's: it's temporarily renaming itself Doom & Buster's, with the full takeover starting Nov. 16.
Movie theaters: AMC, Regal and Cinemark all have Doctor Doom popcorn buckets on the way.
Avengers: Doomsday opens Dec. 18. Gambit's accent, at least, is ready.
