Cold Stone Creamery and Wetzel’s Pretzels have new treats tied to Warner Bros.’ animated The Cat in the Hat, which opens Nov. 6. There’s cotton candy ice cream and a blue lemonade freeze.
The Cat in the Hat hasn’t hit theaters yet, but you can already eat it.
Cold Stone Creamery and Wetzel’s Pretzels both rolled out treats on Oct. 7 tied to Warner Bros. Pictures Animation‘s new movie. The two chains are running separate promotions, and both lean hard into bright colors and sugar, which feels right for a Dr. Seuss movie.
The film opens in theaters and IMAX on Nov. 6.
What are the Cat in the Hat treats at Cold Stone?
Cold Stone has three new items, all built around Cotton Candy Ice Cream:
The Cat in the Hat’s Cotton Candy Catastrophe Creation: Cotton Candy Ice Cream with OREO, confetti sprinkles and whipped topping
The Cat’s Confetti Waffle Bowl and Waffle Cone
Cake Full of Things: red velvet cake layered with Cotton Candy Ice Cream
The treats are available through Dec. 1. Cold Stone didn’t list prices, so they’ll vary by store.
“Every treat captures the playful spirit of the film,” said Jana Schneider, vice president of national programs at Kahala Brands, Cold Stone’s parent company.
Is there a Cold Stone sweepstakes?
Yes. Cold Stone is running a sweepstakes through Nov. 7. The prize is a private hometown screening of the movie plus a $100 Cold Stone gift card.
Check Cold Stone’s website or app for the official rules before you enter.
What is the Cat in the Hat drink at Wetzel’s Pretzels?
Wetzel’s went with a drink: The Things’ Blue Lemonade Freeze. It’s frozen lemonade with blue raspberry granita and cherry boba.
The name comes from Thing 1 and Thing 2, the Cat’s chaotic blue-haired sidekicks. Wetzel’s also mentioned its Dog Bites and Pizza Bitz in the promotion. The drink is available at participating U.S. Wetzel’s locations through Dec. 6.
“We are honored to be an official partner for this film,” said Sarah Curtis, vice president of marketing at Wetzel’s Pretzels.
Wetzel’s also has its own sweepstakes, which runs through Oct. 20 on its Instagram account, @wetzelspretzels.
When does The Cat in the Hat movie come out?
The Cat in the Hat opens Nov. 6 in theaters and IMAX in North America. It’s an animated movie from Warner Bros. Pictures Animation.
Bill Hader voices the Cat. Erica Rivinoja and Alessandro Carloni directed it.
Here’s the main trailer from Warner Bros.
Wasn’t there already a Cat in the Hat movie?
There was a live-action version in 2003, with Mike Myers as the Cat. It got rough reviews, and Dr. Seuss’s widow, Audrey Geisel, was so unhappy with it that she reportedly refused to allow more live-action adaptations of Seuss’s books.
The new film is fully animated, which is how most recent Seuss adaptations have been made. It’s the first big-screen Cat in the Hat in more than 20 years. The Lorax in 2012 and The Grinch in 2018 were both animated hits.
Are the Cat in the Hat treats worth trying?
If you like cotton candy, Cold Stone’s lineup is an easy call. If you want something cold and less sweet, the Wetzel’s freeze has lemonade to cut the sugar.
Either way, these are limited-time items. Cold Stone’s treats end Dec. 1, and the Wetzel’s drink runs a few days longer, so you have time to try both before or after the movie.
