D23 News: Hong Kong's Avengers drop tower finally has a model
Autopia closed at Hong Kong Disneyland in 2016 to make room for a Marvel attraction that never got built. Ten years later, Imagineering brought a model of what’s going there instead.
Autopia closed at Hong Kong Disneyland in 2016.
The land it sat on was cleared for an E-ticket Avengers Quinjet attraction that was supposed to open in 2023. That ride never happened. The site sat.
At D23 Thursday night, Imagineering put a model of the building that’s actually going there on the show floor.
What the Hong Kong Avengers attraction is
A drop tower, in the mold of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission BREAKOUT!
Hong Kong Disneyland has never had either of those, so this one is being built from the ground up rather than converted out of an existing attraction. The model at D23 shows the Avengers Pavilion exterior.
Disney has not announced a name for the ride.
What happens on the Avengers drop tower
Concept art released in September 2025 gives the shape of it.
Riders freefall while Doctor Strange, Thor, Black Panther, and Spider-Man work around them, with Asgard visible in the background. Earlier art from 2024 showed Spider-Man catching the elevator shaft in his webs to stop Doc Ock from dropping it.
An adjacent building in the art is labeled Research Testing Labs, with a satellite dish aimed upward. That’s the same Stark-technology framing used across Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure.
Where the attraction fits at Hong Kong Disneyland
It expands Stark Expo in Tomorrowland.
The park already has two Marvel attractions that exist nowhere else: Iron Man Experience, which uses the Star Tours ride system, and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle, built out of the park’s former Buzz Lightyear ride.
Hong Kong Disneyland is the smallest of the Disney castle parks, and Marvel has become the thing it builds around.
When does the Hong Kong Avengers ride open
No date announced.
Disney revealed the attraction at D23 on August 10, 2024, then released the concept art on the park’s 20th anniversary in September 2025. A physical model at D23 is the next step in that sequence.
Ten years is a long time to hold a plot of land. The model means something is finally going on it, which for anyone who watched Autopia get demolished is the only detail that matters.
