Darth on a Hearth, a $29.99 Star Wars spin on Elf on the Shelf, is now at Walt Disney World. Darth Vader wears a Santa hat and cape and holds a candy cane.
Move over, elf. There’s a Sith Lord on the mantel.
Darth on a Hearth, Disney’s Star Wars spin on Elf on the Shelf, is now on shelves at Walt Disney World, WDW News Today reported on Oct. 9. It costs $29.99.
Disney showed it off in its October merchandise preview earlier this month. Now it’s here, just in time for families to plan where Vader will “turn up” each morning in December.
What is Darth on a Hearth?
It’s a Darth Vader doll dressed for the holidays. He wears a Santa hat and a red cape with white faux fur trim, and he holds a candy cane in place of his lightsaber.
He comes sitting on a cardboard fireplace with two stockings, one for Luke and one for Leia. You can set the whole thing up as is, or move Vader to your own fireplace or mantel.
The box has retro-style art of Vader in his Santa gear, plus an AT-AT, TIE fighters, Star Destroyers and a stormtrooper snowman.
What does the Darth on a Hearth poem say?
Like Elf on the Shelf, Darth on a Hearth comes with a rhyme that sets up the tradition. It calls the holiday “Sith-mas.”
According to WDW News Today, the poem says Vader “once led the Empire, with power and might,” but now he brings “holiday mischief each night.” He’ll guard your presents and tree, and he might sneak a few candy canes for the dark side.
It ends with a reminder to leave out some cookies, which seems smart. Nobody wants to find out what happens if you don’t.
Where can you buy Darth on a Hearth?
WDW News Today found it at three Walt Disney World shops:
The Emporium on Main Street, U.S.A., at Magic Kingdom
Tatooine Traders at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Disney’s Days of Christmas at Disney Springs
So far, WDW News Today has only spotted it at Walt Disney World.
How does Elf on the Shelf work?
The original Elf on the Shelf started as a 2005 picture book by Carol Aebersold and her daughter, Chanda Bell.
The idea is that a scout elf watches the kids during the day, then flies back to the North Pole at night to report to Santa. Each morning, the elf shows up somewhere new in the house, and the kids go hunting for it.
The big rule is that kids aren’t supposed to touch the elf. The Darth on a Hearth poem doesn’t mention a no-touching rule, but touching Darth Vader’s stuff has never worked out great for anyone.
What other holiday merch just came out?
Disney’s October preview also included holiday pins of Mickey and friends and Grogu dressed for the season, according to WDW News Today.
Old Navy also just launched a Star Wars cookie-themed holiday collection with matching pajamas, accessories and pet clothes, WDW News Today reported.
And at Walt Disney World, the Holiday Lights Collection arrived on Oct. 9, with apparel showing the Walt Disney World logo wrapped in strands of holiday lights.
Is Darth on a Hearth a good gift?
For a Star Wars family, it’s a pretty fun one. It works as a once-a-year tradition the way Elf on the Shelf does, and the Luke and Leia stockings are a nice touch.
It’s also a solid pick for grown-up fans who want something goofy on the mantel. If you want one, the Emporium is probably the easiest stop on a Magic Kingdom day.
