A citizen dressed as the Star Wars character Darth Vader spoke in support of Flock Safety cameras during a city council meeting addressing local law enforcement’s recent acquisition of the divisive surveillance technology.
A Public Safety meeting by the San Diego City Council to discuss Flock Safety cameras recently acquired by local police led to an interesting interaction when a citizen dressed as Darth Vader took to the podium during time for public commentary.
At the podium, he channeled the iconic villain and praised the Flock technology being added, saying the “Emperor is a fan”
The Emperor is a fan of Flock, and we must continue utilizing Flock technologies so that we can follow and surveil the Rebel scum as they move from playground to playground. From playground to pool. From pool to gymnasium.
Because we all know that the Flock cameras are not only following the license plate readers. They are following children.

Flock Safety cameras are a hot-button issue, with many citizens against them.
These cameras can collect data including license plate numbers. Information can also be stored and shared.
Recently, people have taken to destroying or blocking the cameras as they feel they are invasive and allow mass surveillance without proper warrants.

Now, several police officers have been arrested for misusing the technology to surveil ex- or current romantic partners, or other people they know, for non-law-enforcement use.
While some citizens have issues with the technology, Darth Vader has no objections.
