A 25-year-old Kissimmee man is charged with aggravated assault with a firearm after deputies say he pointed a handgun at a Disney bus driver who honked at him near Port Orleans. He denies it.
A honk at a green light near Walt Disney World ended with a felony charge, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say a 25-year-old Kissimmee man pointed a handgun at a Disney bus driver on the evening of Monday, Oct. 5. He’s charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, WKMG in Orlando reported, citing an arrest affidavit.
He told deputies he had a gun in his car but never pointed it at anyone.
What happened with the Disney World bus driver?
Here’s what the affidavit alleges, as reported by WKMG and outlets that followed its story.
At about 9 p.m., a white Jeep was stopped at a green light on East Buena Vista Drive near Bonnet Creek Parkway, with a Disney bus behind it. When the Jeep didn’t move, the bus driver honked and pulled closer.
A witness told investigators the Jeep’s driver got out, walked toward the bus, went back to the Jeep, took a black semi-automatic pistol from the center console and pointed it at the bus driver.
Someone called 911 and said the Jeep had driven to Disney’s Port Orleans Resort. Port Orleans is a pair of moderate Disney hotels, French Quarter and Riverside, a short drive from Disney Springs.
Deputies found the Jeep there, and the man walked up to them and said he was “just delivering food with DoorDash,” according to the affidavit.
Was anyone hurt on the Disney bus?
None of the reports mention any injuries, and none say whether guests were on the bus at the time.
Deputies say video from the Disney bus shows the man pointing a handgun at the driver before leaving the area.
What is the Disney bus suspect charged with?
Aggravated assault with a firearm, a felony in Florida. He was booked into the Orange County Jail and held on a $10,000 bond, WKMG reported.
Investigators haven’t given a motive. He hasn’t been convicted of anything, and the account above comes from deputies and a witness. In his version, he was just delivering food.
Are guns allowed at Walt Disney World?
No. Disney bans firearms and other weapons at Walt Disney World Resort, Hoodline reported, citing Florida Politics.
This happened out on a public road, though, where Disney’s bag checks and metal detectors don’t reach. East Buena Vista Drive runs through the resort area near Disney Springs, and it’s open to regular traffic, including delivery drivers.
Disney hasn’t commented on the arrest in any of the reports we found.
How do Disney World buses work?
Disney’s buses carry guests between its resort hotels, theme parks and Disney Springs. They share the roads with everyone else in the resort area, so rideshare cars, delivery drivers and rental cars all mix in with them.
Bus drivers are Disney cast members. This one, by the deputies’ account, did nothing more than honk at a car sitting through a green light.
