Disney Adventure: Charting a New Course, a National Geographic documentary about Disney Cruise Line’s biggest ship, streams Nov. 28 on Disney+. It tells how Disney rescued a half-built ship.
Disney’s biggest cruise ship is getting its own movie.
Disney Adventure: Charting a New Course, a new documentary about the Disney Adventure, will stream starting Saturday, Nov. 28, on Disney+, according to WDW News Today and The Disney Cruise Line Blog. It will also be available on National Geographic and JioHotstar.
Disney Cruise Line Singapore first announced the documentary on Instagram.
What is Disney Adventure: Charting a New Course about?
The story behind the Disney Adventure, the largest ship in Disney Cruise Line’s fleet. The documentary comes from National Geographic, according to Laughing Place.
Disney hasn’t shared the runtime or who appears in it. But the ship’s backstory gives it plenty to work with.
How did Disney get the Disney Adventure?
It bought a ship that was already partly built. The vessel started as the Global Dream, ordered in 2016 by Genting Hong Kong, WDWNT reported. When Genting collapsed, work on the ship stopped with the hull about three-quarters finished.
Disney bought the unfinished ship in 2022 and redesigned it for families.
How much did the Disney Adventure cost?
A lot more than planned. Disney paid about $40 million for the ship, and the final cost of finishing it rose to about $1.8 billion, according to a Wall Street Journal report cited by The Disney Cruise Line Blog. Early estimates were about $1 billion.
Laughing Place said Disney spent nearly twice its original budget, roughly the price of a brand-new ship.
Why was the Disney Adventure so hard to finish?
The Global Dream was designed with casinos in mind, so Walt Disney Imagineering had to rebuild big parts of it for families. The work started in 2023, and the WSJ described crews moving steel girders until they “resembled Swiss cheese.”
How big is the Disney Adventure?
Huge. The ship weighs about 208,000 gross tons and is about 1,124 feet long, according to The Disney Cruise Line Blog. Disney expects it to carry about 6,000 to 6,700 guests and about 2,300 crew members.
It’s also expected to be one of the first cruise ships fueled by green methanol.
Where does the Disney Adventure sail?
From Singapore. It’s Disney Cruise Line’s first ship based in Asia, and it sails three- and four-night cruises from Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore, according to TTG Asia.
Its maiden voyage set sail on March 10, 2026. Starting in December, the ship will add its first port stop, Langkawi, Malaysia, WDWNT reported.
What’s on board the Disney Adventure?
Seven themed areas, according to TTG Asia. Highlights include Ironcycle Test Run, a Marvel-themed attraction, and a new stage show called Remember.
Duffy the Disney Bear is a big part of the fun too. The ship has a Duffy and Friends store, a show called Duffy and the Friend Ship and a new Duffy & Friends character breakfast, WDWNT reported.
Is there a trailer for the Disney Adventure documentary?
Not yet. Disney has shared a title image and a promotional photo, but no official trailer.
Can Americans sail on the Disney Adventure?
Yes. Anyone can book a Singapore sailing, but U.S. guests will need to fly to Southeast Asia first. That makes the Disney+ documentary an easy way for fans back home to get a look inside.
What other Disney cruise ships are new?
Disney Cruise Line is in the middle of a big expansion. The Disney Destiny launched in 2025, and more ships are on the way, including the Disney Believe, which sets sail on its maiden voyage from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Dec. 18, 2027.
