Disney Cruise Line built a 40-meter Disney Adventure ship facade in Disneytown at Shanghai Disney Resort, and the pop-up opens to guests Nov. 4 through Jan. 15, 2027.
Shanghai Disney Resort is more than 2,000 miles from the nearest Disney cruise port. So Disney Cruise Line brought a ship to the park instead. Sort of.
A limited-time Disney Adventure pop-up exhibition opens to guests in Disneytown on Wednesday, Nov. 4, according to China Daily and BlogMickey. It runs through Friday, Jan. 15, 2027, per China Daily.
The centerpiece is a 40-meter structure modeled on the outside of the Disney Adventure, the cruise line’s ship based in Singapore. That’s about 131 feet, by BlogMickey’s math, so it’s not exactly a cardboard cutout.
What’s inside the Disney Adventure pop-up in Shanghai?
China Daily and BlogMickey describe the setup like this:
Captain Mickey and Captain Minnie statues at the entrance
Displays on each of the ship’s seven themed areas
Interactive screens about the shows, dining, attractions and amenities on board
Detailed ship models and cutaway artwork
BlogMickey says the facade has a navy hull with “Disney Adventure” in gold, gold scrollwork toward the bow and a row of portholes. It also describes a deck-themed photo spot with a red funnel, a painted sky with anchor- and Mickey-shaped clouds, white railings and life rings.
Disney hasn’t posted hours or said whether entry costs anything, so check with the resort before you plan around it.
Who opened the Disney Adventure exhibit?
Captain Mickey and Captain Minnie were on hand on Tuesday, Nov. 3, along with Donald, Daisy and a group of dancers, according to BlogMickey.
Two Disney leaders spoke about it, per China Daily. Sarah Fox, Disney Cruise Line’s vice president and regional general manager for Southeast Asia, said, “The Disney Adventure opens an exciting new chapter for Disney Cruise Line in Asia.”
Andrew Bolstein, president and general manager of Shanghai Disney Resort, said, “This new activation gives guests more reasons to visit the resort.”
The pitch is pretty clear. Mainland China is a big market for a ship sailing out of Singapore, and Shanghai Disney is where a lot of Disney fans in China already go.
Where is Disneytown at Shanghai Disney Resort?
Disneytown is the shopping and dining district right next to the main entrance of Shanghai Disneyland. BlogMickey says it sits along the shore of Wishing Star Lake. Think Disney Springs or Downtown Disney, with a Broadway-style theater and a lot of stores.
So you don’t need a park ticket to wander through Disneytown. That makes the pop-up an easy stop on a travel day.
What is the Disney Adventure cruise ship?
It’s Disney Cruise Line’s biggest ship. The Disney Adventure is 1,122 feet long and can carry up to about 6,700 guests, according to Disney. It’s the first Disney ship to homeport in Asia.
The ship started life as the Global Dream, ordered for Genting Hong Kong’s Dream Cruises. Disney bought the partly built ship in 2022 and had it finished. The maiden voyage left Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore on March 10, 2026, according to Disney.
Here’s Disney’s own inside look at the ship, with rooms, dining and more:
What can you do on the Disney Adventure?
The ship has seven themed areas: Disney Imagination Garden, San Fransokyo Street, Marvel Landing, Toy Story Place, Wayfinder Bay, Disney Discovery Reef and Town Square.
Marvel Landing is home to the Ironcycle Test Run, Disney Cruise Line’s first roller coaster. China Daily calls it the longest at sea. It wasn’t running on the maiden voyage, but WDWNT reported it was operating by late March.
China Daily also mentions an original Broadway-style musical called Remember, a Bon Voyage Breakfast with Duffy and Friends, and dining with Chinese, Singaporean, Indian and Japanese dishes.
Where does the Disney Adventure sail?
The ship runs three- and four-night cruises out of Singapore, and most of those have been at sea with no port stops. That’s changing. China Daily reports that select four-night sailings will call at Langkawi, Malaysia, starting Dec. 31.
So if the pop-up talks you into it, you’re looking at a flight to Singapore. It’s a long way to go for a roller coaster on a boat. Then again, it’s a roller coaster on a boat.
