Disney Cruise Line’s buy-five-get-one coffee cards now say they can’t move between guests or cruises, Disney Food Blog reported from the Disney Wish. We looked at what changed and what a free coffee is worth.
Disney Cruise Line coffee fans just lost a small perk.
The punch cards for specialty coffee, the ones where you buy five drinks and get the sixth free, now carry a new line: “Non-transferable between Guests or cruises.” Disney Food Blog spotted it on the Disney Wish and reported it on Oct. 12.
A crew member told the blog it was a new change. We couldn’t find any public announcement about it from Disney Cruise Line.
Disney Food Blog’s headline warned readers they were not “gonna like it.” For regular cruisers, the old card was basically a free latte every couple of sailings.
What changed with the Disney Cruise Line coffee card?
Until now, plenty of cruisers held on to a half-punched card and finished it on their next sailing. Disney Food Blog said the cards used to work “from cruise to cruise and ship to ship.”
The new wording ends that. A card now has to be filled up on the same cruise, by the same guest.
So far, the change has only been reported on the Disney Wish. Whether it’s fleetwide hasn’t been confirmed.
Was the coffee card ever supposed to carry over?
That depends on who you ask.
As recently as June 1, 2026, a volunteer panelist on Disney’s own planDisney site told a cruiser, “you can carry this card from sailing to sailing.” That suggests the change came sometime after June.
But a Touring Plans writer said back in 2024 that the cards were “not supposed to carry over” in theory, even though the writer had often used a partly filled card from an earlier cruise to get a head start.
Either way, the card itself now spells it out.
How does the Disney Cruise Line coffee card work?
Buy a specialty coffee at Cove Cafe, get a stamp. After five stamps, the sixth drink is free, according to planDisney answers from 2023 and 2026. One 2023 answer said the card also worked at Vista Cafe on the Disney Fantasy.
The card has gone by a couple of names over the years, including the “Cove Fanatic Card” and “Cafe Fanatic.”
Cove Cafe is the coffee lounge in the adults-only area, for guests 18 and up. It’s a coffee spot by day and turns into more of a cocktail lounge at night, a planDisney panelist said.
How much is coffee on a Disney cruise?
Regular drip coffee is free on Disney Cruise Line, in the dining rooms, at the beverage stations and from room service.
Specialty drinks like lattes, cappuccinos, espresso and cold brew cost extra. A planDisney panelist put them at $6 to $10 in February 2026, with an 18% gratuity added on top.
What is a free coffee on a Disney cruise worth?
By our math:
The free sixth drink is worth $6 to $10, or about $7.08 to $11.80 with the 18% gratuity.
Getting there means buying five drinks first, which runs $30 to $50 before gratuity.
A full card works out to about 17% off six drinks.
Short trips get hit hardest. At one specialty coffee a day, it takes six days to get to the free drink.
On a four-night cruise, you’d need about one and a half a day. On a three-night cruise, you’d need two a day.
Before the change, a half-full card could wait for the next cruise. Now it can’t.
What else is new at Disney Cruise Line?
It’s been a busy few weeks at sea:
Wristbands are being tested. On the Disney Treasure, the Oct. 10 sailing is testing Key to the World wristbands in place of the usual cards, BlogMickey and Disney Tourist Blog reported.
Disney Believe has a launch date. The next Wish-class ship sets sail Dec. 18, 2027, from Port Everglades. It’ll have a Disney Encanto stage musical, a Frozen dinner show called Oaken’s Table: A Frozen Family Feast, and two new cafes, Big Hero Sips and Cafe Kakamora, Disney Cruise Line announced Oct. 7. Castaway Club members got early booking starting Oct. 12, and general booking opens Oct. 19.
The fleet keeps growing. Disney Cruise Line has eight ships and plans five more by late 2030.
The coffee card change was spotted on the Disney Wish. Disney introduced the ship in this video:
Are there other new Disney Cruise Line rules in 2026?
Yes. In May, Disney Cruise Line announced new rules for stateroom door decorations, alcohol limits and photo gear, for sailings starting June 3, Disney Tourist Blog reported.
And Disney Believe prices start at $2,683 for two guests in an inside stateroom on a four-night sailing, BlogMickey reported. That’s about $335 per person per night, before you buy a single latte.
What are some fun facts about Cove Cafe?
It’s adults only. Kids can’t come in, which is a big part of its appeal on a family cruise line.
The free stuff is still free. Drip coffee doesn’t need a card at all.
The card fine print has always hedged. One 2023 planDisney answer warned that the rewards program “is subject to change without notice.” Looks like it did.
If you’ve got a half-punched card in a drawer from your last cruise, it’s officially a souvenir now.
