Disney reveals new Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party Cast Member costumes and fans hate them.
The new costumes kind of suck.
Disney unveiled new Mickey’s-Not-So-Scary-Halloween Party costumes ahead of the special-ticketed event starting on August 7. The new costumes are darker and less visually interesting. Parks fans seem to hate them.
Disney has started a new controversy, this time over Cast Member costumes for a special-ticketed event at the Magic Kingdom.
Mickey’s-Not-So-Scary-Halloween Party happens on select nights from August through Halloween at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World.
It’s a family-friendly Halloween party where Cast Members dress up in bright colored costumes. The costumes are so popular that many will have custom versions made for their children to attend the event.
Disney unveils a new look!
The costumes were reportedly revealed to Cast Members and then leaked to Instagram.
I sincerely hope the person who posted the costumes in the group hasn’t been targeted for doing so. She didn’t take the photo and post it online.
When compared to the previous costumes, it seems they wanted to move away from the skirt (and any semblance of fun.)
Fans are not liking the new look,
“Its giving bowling alley carpet...and not the cool one.” -spooky_baags
“It looks so corporate lol why are they changing the costumes like this?” - sparrowstyle_entertainment
“Its giving me 90s movie theater vibes”-straw_hat_slammy
“as a former cast member who wore the previous ones… ew.” -mysweetrobyn
“Trust us cast members are not happy either.” -haybugs027
“This is the worst thing I’ve ever seen. It’s actually ruined my day. Where is whimsy! Where is color!!” -mirandaiisms
“It’s like they hate joy and whimsy and FUN” -lifewiththem
“As a cast member, I’m distraught..😭” - kay_m1504
“That actually just turned me off to buying tickets.” -jenv_23
Some think the change was due to the costumes and the heat.
However, they can still make a lighter costume and not make it look like 1990s arcade or movie theater carpeting.
“They got smart... former cm here people got sent to the emergency room for heat stroke from the old costuming thats for sure so honestly the new costume looks like it breathes better. I cant tell you how many times I had to leave not so scary shifts in the back of an ambulance with how horribly hot that costume was.” - Brandon Domanico
I also wonder if this is to make the costumes more gender neutral to get around any guest issues with the newer dress code rules that allow Cast Members to dress how they identify.
No matter the reasons, they could have accomplished those things while still making the uniforms visually interesting and fun.
This look isn’t it.
