More than 70% of Avengers: Doomsday's early ticket sales are for Disney's new Infinity Vision premium screens, and one tracker puts presales near $65 million with seven weeks to go.
Fans aren't waiting for reviews. Avengers: Doomsday has already sold more than $50 million in domestic tickets, Disney's chief financial officer told an investor conference, with over 70% of those sales tied to Disney's new Infinity Vision premium format.
The movie doesn't open until Friday, Dec. 18.
One box office tracker thinks the real number is even higher. Global Box Office estimated domestic presales at more than $65 million as of Oct. 27, about 50 days before release. That's an unofficial estimate, not a Disney figure, so take it as a strong hint rather than a final count.
Here's Marvel's latest look at the movie:
How do Avengers: Doomsday presales compare to other movies?
It's already in elite company. Here's how the top domestic presale totals stack up, using the tracker's numbers:
Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026): $150 million
Avengers: Endgame (2019): $130 million
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021): $78 million
Avengers: Doomsday (so far): about $65 million, by the tracker's estimate
If that estimate holds, Doomsday is about $13 million away from passing No Way Home for third place, with seven weeks of sales still to go.
And it's moving faster than Spider-Man did. Doomsday passed $40 million in presales about 100 days before release. Brand New Day didn't hit that mark until about 40 days out.
What is Infinity Vision?
It's Disney's new premium theater format, launched this year to compete with IMAX and other large-format screens. Doomsday is one of its biggest tests so far.
Infinity Vision tickets went on sale first, on July 20, and sold $16.5 million on day one across about 1,000 theaters. That head start is a big reason so much of Doomsday's presale money is tied to the format.
How much could Avengers: Doomsday make opening weekend?
The same tracker projects a domestic opening of $260 million to $300 million. That would be huge, but it would still fall short of the two biggest debuts ever: Avengers: Endgame's $357.1 million and Spider-Man: Brand New Day's $360 million earlier this year.
Projections this early can swing a lot, especially for a movie opening the week before Christmas, when moviegoers have more days off and fewer school nights.
Is Avengers: Doomsday selling well overseas?
Yes. Worldwide presales passed $100 million on Oct. 6 and reached about $125 million shortly after.
In Germany, the movie sold 118,000 tickets in its first 24 hours, beating Avengers: Endgame's 105,000 in the same window. It was also the fastest movie to pass $1 million in presales in Brazil and the U.K.
Should you buy Avengers: Doomsday tickets now?
If you want a good seat on opening weekend, probably. Presales like these usually mean the best showtimes in premium formats go first, especially Thursday night previews and Friday evening shows.
Regular showtimes have been on sale through Fandango and theater apps since the summer, so there's still time if you're flexible. Just don't expect a prime center seat at 7 p.m. on Dec. 18 if you wait until December.
Who is in Avengers: Doomsday?
The big one is Robert Downey Jr., who played Tony Stark for over a decade and is back in the MCU as the villain, Doctor Doom. The movie is directed by the Russo brothers, who made Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
Disney+ subscribers can also enter daily through Nov. 19 for a chance to win a trip to the world premiere. If you'd rather just get a good seat, it might be time to buy those tickets.
