Disney World has stationed Cast Members at the gates of more hotel pools, scanning MagicBands and handing out wristbands. If you're not staying there, you're not swimming there.
That sneaky afternoon swim at a fancier Disney World hotel is getting a lot harder to pull off. Disney has put Cast Members at the main entrances of more resort pools, and they're scanning MagicBands and room keys before anyone gets in.
Once your reservation checks out, you get a wristband. No band, no pool.
The rule itself isn't new. Disney World has said for years that guests can only use the pool at the hotel where they're staying. What's new is that somebody is actually standing at the gate.
Which Disney World pools check wristbands?
Stormalong Bay at Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resorts was first, and it has checked reservations for years. It's often called the most popular pool on property, so that one makes sense.
Since then, wristband checks have spread to:
Disney's BoardWalk Inn
Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort
Disney's Port Orleans Resort French Quarter
Disney's Port Orleans Resort Riverside
At the BoardWalk, Disney Food Blog writers were turned away from Leaping Horse Libations, the pool bar inside the fence. Side entrances there have been switched to exit only.
Here's a look at some of the pools that are worth staying for:
How do the Disney World pool wristbands work?
A Cast Member at the pool entrance scans your MagicBand or room key. Everyone in your party who's physically there gets a band.
Pool access lasts for your whole stay, including check-in and check-out days. Some resorts let you keep the same wristband all week. Others hand out a new color each day, so you might get scanned more than once.
Enforcement can come and go depending on the season, but Disney fans who track this stuff say to expect it at this point.
Can you pool hop between Disney World resorts?
Generally, no. Staying at Pop Century doesn't get you into the Big Blue Pool at Art of Animation next door.
Some sister resorts have shared pools in the past, like the two Port Orleans hotels. But when Riverside started its wristband checks in September, Kenny the Pirate reported that hopping between Riverside and French Quarter wasn't allowed either.
Disney Vacation Club members used to have a pool hopping perk, but it's been suspended since 2020.
If you're not sure, ask the front desk at your hotel before you grab your towel.
Why is Disney World cracking down on pool hopping?
Paying guests were losing pool chairs to people who weren't staying there. Reports have pointed to off-site visitors swimming and hanging out at resort pools, and even throwing birthday parties there.
The pool checks are part of a bigger crackdown on resort hopping. Since July 2026, Disney has checked for a hotel or dining reservation before letting people board resort buses and boats at Disney Springs.
You can still visit other hotels to eat or shop. You'll just need to get there from a theme park or have a reservation.
What happens if you get turned away at a Disney World pool?
Nothing dramatic. The Cast Member at the gate will tell you the pool is for that hotel's guests, and that's the end of it.
If you are staying there and get stopped, have your MagicBand, room key or My Disney Experience app ready. The reservation check takes a few seconds, and then you're in.
What to do if you want to swim at another Disney World resort
Book a night there. That's the only sure bet now.
If you just want the view, plenty of resort restaurants and lounges still welcome outside guests with a dining reservation. Beaches & Cream Soda Shop sits right next to Stormalong Bay's sand-bottom pool. You can eat a Kitchen Sink sundae within splashing distance. You just can't splash.
