Seven Disney World resort food courts now serve Mickey waffles topped with candy bar pieces, fruit cereal, caramel-banana or strawberries, plus birthday cake waffles. Plates are $12.59.
Disney World just gave the Mickey waffle a sugar rush.
New specialty waffles and pancakes are on the breakfast menus at seven Walt Disney World resort food courts, with toppings like candy bar pieces, fruit cereal and birthday cake custard. Each waffle plate is $12.59 and each pancake plate is $11.99, both with bacon and sausage, according to Disney’s menus.
Disney first teased them on Sept. 3 for “this fall.” Most of them showed up on menus the week ending Oct. 11, Disney Food Blog reported.
Where can you get the new Mickey waffles at Disney World?
Each resort food court got its own flavor:
Candy Bar at World Premiere Food Court, Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort: Mickey waffles or pancakes with cookie bar pieces and caramel and chocolate sauces.
Fruit Cereal at Intermission Food Court, All-Star Music: creamy vanilla custard and fruit cereal on top.
Birthday Cake at Landscape of Flavors, Art of Animation: character-shaped waffles or pancakes with birthday cake custard, cake crumbs and rainbow sprinkles.
Caramel-Banana at End Zone Food Court, All-Star Sports: Mickey waffles or pancakes with a streusel topping.
Strawberry at three spots: Everything POP at Pop Century, Sassagoula Floatworks at Port Orleans French Quarter and Riverside Mill at Port Orleans Riverside. The waffles and pancakes both come with creamy vanilla custard.
Most of these are at value resorts, Disney World’s least expensive hotels, so they’re some of the cheapest places on property to try one.
There’s a deluxe-resort bonus, too. Gasparilla Island Grill at Disney’s Grand Floridian added a Mickey-shaped Blueberry Waffle with blueberry cream cheese and bacon, also $12.59.
Disney Food Blog’s review headline said its writers didn’t think Mickey waffles could get any better, and they were wrong. The review itself was more mixed. It called some of the crumbles stale.
How much do the new Disney World Mickey waffles cost?
Every specialty waffle plate is $12.59. Here’s how that stacks up on the same menus:
A plain Mickey-shaped Waffles plate is $11.29, so the toppings cost $1.30 more, about 12%.
Plain vanilla pancakes run $10.49 to $10.79, so the specialty pancakes are $1.20 to $1.50 more.
The Waffle Bounty Platter, with a Mickey waffle, scrambled eggs, potato barrels, bacon and sausage, is $13.29. That’s just 70 cents more than a specialty waffle plate.
A kids’ Mickey waffle plate is $7.99 at most spots.
A family of four ordering one specialty waffle plate each would spend about $50 before tax.
Reviewers at WDW News Today and Disney Food Blog both said the plates come with three waffles.
For comparison, a plain Mickey waffle at Disneyland’s Carnation Cafe is $18, though that’s a sit-down restaurant.
Are Disney World’s candy bar waffles made with Twix?
Disney isn’t saying. Its menu calls them “Candy Bar Waffles” with “Cookie Bar Pieces,” and no brand name.
WDW News Today’s review called them Twix. And here’s the odd part.
The same World Premiere breakfast menu lists a cookie with “TWIX cookie bar pieces,” plus M&M’s and Snickers, by name. So Disney names candy brands when it wants to, and it didn’t for these.
Disney Food Blog said the candy bar topping was out of stock when its reviewers stopped by.
When did Disney announce the new waffles?
On Sept. 3, in a Disney Parks Blog post about new treats and drinks coming to Disney World this fall. The same post announced new churros, frozen slushes, shakes and specialty drinks.
Disney Food Blog counted hundreds of menu changes across Disney World in the week the waffles arrived. A few that stood out, per its roundup:
Caramel Pecan Cheesecake and Pumpkin Cheesecake Bread at all four All-Star and Art of Animation food courts
A plant-based Chocolate Chip Cookie Sandwich at World Premiere
Bacon, Egg and Cheese Spring Rolls at Magic Kingdom
Here’s Disney’s own tour of Art of Animation, home of the birthday cake waffles:
Can you make Mickey waffles at home?
Yes. Disney Store sells a Mickey Mouse Waffle Maker for $39.99 and a Mickey Mouse Mini Waffle Maker for $29.99, which makes one 4-inch winking Mickey at a time. The mini’s listing names Select Brands as its maker.
The big one costs about the same as three specialty waffle plates at the resorts. Your kitchen won’t have the giant Buzz Lightyear outside, though.
How long has Disney served Mickey waffles?
A long time. D23, Disney’s official fan club, calls the Mickey waffle and Mickey pancake “Disney Parks staples for generations.”
They turn up all over the parks. Tusker House at Animal Kingdom serves Mickey-shaped waffles and Simba waffles at breakfast.
What are some fun facts about Disney World’s Mickey waffles?
Not every one is a Mickey. Disney’s menu calls the Art of Animation birthday cake waffles “character-shaped.”
The strawberry plates don’t say strawberry. Disney’s menu description lists only creamy vanilla custard, bacon and sausage, but the strawberries are right there in the name and the photos.
The classic is still around. Plain waffle plates are still on these menus for $11.29.
Mobile order may lag. WDW News Today said the All-Star Sports version wasn’t on mobile order yet when it visited.
Cereal, candy and cake for breakfast. Somewhere, a kid who’s been asking for dessert at breakfast for years just won the argument.
