California Grill’s New Year’s Eve dinner is coming back to Disney World. Booking details arrive Nov. 11, and last year’s seats ran $229 to $349 a person.
New Year’s Eve at Disney World’s California Grill is coming back, and Disney says the booking details drop Nov. 11.
Disney’s event page for The Magic of New Year’s Eve at California Grill now says details will be released that day, WDW News Today reported Sunday. The restaurant sits on the top floor of Disney’s Contemporary Resort.
The pitch is simple: dinner up high, then Magic Kingdom’s New Year’s Eve fireworks right outside the windows.
No prices or menu yet. That’s what Nov. 11 is for.
Here’s what the fireworks look like from California Grill, filmed this summer by GarageMahal on YouTube:
How much did California Grill’s New Year’s Eve cost last year?
It wasn’t cheap. Last year’s event ran two nights, Dec. 30 and Dec. 31, WDWNT reported.
Dec. 30: $229 a person
Dec. 31, early seating: $299 a person
Dec. 31, late seating: $349 a person
Do the math for a family of four and the late seating on New Year’s Eve comes to $1,396, before tax and tip.
Going a night early saved $120 a person, or $480 for that same family.
What was included in California Grill’s New Year’s Eve event?
Last year’s ticket covered a special four-course dinner, a live band and photos with Mickey and Minnie, plus a spot to watch the fireworks.
The menu leaned fancy, with dishes like a Wagyu filet, butter-poached Maine lobster and a sweet potato bisque. Desserts included a chocolate blossom and a brown sugar creme brulee.
Disney hasn’t said whether this year’s menu or prices will change. We’ll know more on Nov. 11.
Where is California Grill at Disney World?
It’s on the 15th floor of the Contemporary, the big A-frame hotel the monorail runs right through. It’s an easy walk to Magic Kingdom, and the restaurant’s windows look right out at the park.
On a normal night, dinner guests can step out onto the observation decks when the fireworks start, and the show’s music plays outside. It’s one of the few spots on property where you can watch Magic Kingdom fireworks without fighting the Main Street crowd.
On New Year’s Eve, when the park itself is packed shoulder to shoulder, that’s a big deal.
The holiday dinner hasn’t always looked like last year’s, either. In 2024, the New Year’s Eve event at California Grill was themed to Tiana and called Tiana’s New Year’s Adventure, AllEars reported.
When can you book California Grill for New Year’s Eve?
Disney hasn’t said yet. Last year, though, reservations didn’t open until late December, just days before the event, according to WDWNT. Guests booked by phone.
So getting the details on Nov. 11 would put planners about seven weeks ahead of the party, a lot more runway than last year.
Last year’s cancellation rule was strict, too. Guests were charged full price if they canceled within 24 hours or didn’t show up.
What else is happening at Disney World in December?
Plenty, and it’s a good reason to start planning now.
Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party runs on select nights at Magic Kingdom through Dec. 22, according to Disney Food Blog’s date list. Several December nights, including Dec. 18, Dec. 20 and Dec. 22, were already sold out.
Before that, Magic Kingdom will run two daytime performances of Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade at 2 p.m. on Nov. 10 and Nov. 11 while ABC tapes its holiday parade special, BlogMickey reported. Those aren’t party nights, so regular day guests can watch.
And if you’re in town the week before Christmas, Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters Dec. 18.
Last year’s New Year’s Eve menu was inspired by California Grill’s 30th anniversary, WDWNT reported.
Whatever this year’s theme turns out to be, the view stays the same. And for midnight on New Year’s Eve, it’s about as good a seat as Disney World has.
