Disney World has never run Haunted Mansion Holiday. But Imagineers just pointed out that Jack Skellington's movie already has a quiet spot inside the Magic Kingdom attraction.
Every fall, Jack Skellington takes over the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland and Tokyo Disneyland. At Disney World, he never shows up. Or does he?
Walt Disney Imagineering recently shared a close-up on Instagram of a Nightmare Before Christmas homage hiding inside the Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom. It's tucked into a stack of books in the library scene.
"We do have an homage to The Nightmare Before Christmas in this stack of books," said Jessica, a senior illusion developer at Imagineering.
So, no, Disney World isn't getting Haunted Mansion Holiday. But Jack's movie has been riding along in Liberty Square the whole time.
Here's a deeper look at the Nightmare Before Christmas Easter eggs fans have spotted in the Mansion over the years:
Is Haunted Mansion Holiday coming to Disney World?
There's no sign of it. Disney World has never announced plans to bring the overlay to Magic Kingdom, and nothing official has changed. Some fan sites have asked whether the Imagineering post hints at something bigger, but that's speculation, not news.
Disney has also never explained why Florida skips it. Fans usually point to a few practical reasons.
Disneyland closes its Haunted Mansion for a stretch in late summer to install the overlay, then again after the holidays to remove it. That's easier at a park with lots of local annual passholders. At Disney World, many families plan one big trip, and some would be upset to find a classic ride closed or redressed.
Where is the Nightmare Before Christmas Easter egg in the Haunted Mansion?
In the library, the room lined with tall bookshelves and the marble busts whose eyes seem to follow you. Look for the stack of books Imagineering highlighted. It's easy to miss when you're busy watching the busts turn.
Pro tip: the library goes by fast. If you want to spot it, look at the books instead of the busts the first time through.
How long has Haunted Mansion Holiday been at Disneyland?
Since 2001, which makes 2026 the overlay's 25th anniversary. Jack and the gang take over the Mansion for both Halloween and Christmas, with snow, a brand-new gingerbread house every year and Oogie Boogie lurking around.
Tokyo Disneyland runs its own version, Haunted Mansion Holiday Nightmare, every fall too.
This year, Disneyland's version opened with Halloween Time in late August and runs through the holidays.
What other Easter eggs are in Disney World's Haunted Mansion?
Plenty. The Mansion is one of the best hunting grounds at Magic Kingdom.
Look for a wedding ring set into the ground outside, a nod to the Mansion's famous bride. Near the exit, watch Madame Leota's tombstone, where her eyes sometimes open. And in the ballroom, a set of plates on the banquet table forms a Hidden Mickey.
Now you can add a stack of library books to the list.
What's new at the Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom?
The Florida Mansion keeps getting small updates. It's one of Magic Kingdom's original 1971 attractions, and fans track every change to the ghosts, the queue and the effects.
If you want a holiday fix in Liberty Square this year, the Christmas decorations are going up around Magic Kingdom now, and Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party starts Nov. 8. Party tickets are going fast, with only about eight nights still open at last count, so don't wait if you want one.
The Mansion itself stays spooky. Jack's just hiding in the bookshelves.
