Disney quietly pushed back the end date for work at the Polynesian Village Resort. Its new notice also says “most” amenities will stay open, not “all,” and Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace is still closed.
If you’re staying at the Polynesian this winter, pack your patience along with your Dole Whip cravings.
Construction at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will continue through early 2027, according to an updated refurbishment notice from Disney, BlogMickey reported Tuesday, Oct. 20. Disney had previously said the work would wrap up by the end of 2026.
The notice says the project includes “the reconfiguration of the front entrance roadway.”
What does Disney’s new Polynesian notice say?
The notice reads: “Through early 2027, some areas of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows are being refurbished.”
Disney also warns that “some views of the theme parks and other surrounding areas may be impacted,” and that “most Resort dining, pools and amenities will remain available.”
So if you were hoping for clear views of Magic Kingdom from the beach, there may be some construction in the way.
What changed from Disney’s old notice?
A few things.
Disney’s previous notice, from June 2025, covered work from May 2025 through 2026. That version called the project “the reconfiguration of the front entrance roadway and bus area.” The new notice drops the bus area, because that part is done. The new bus loop opened on July 13 with a covered shelter near the Great Ceremonial House, the resort’s main building.
The bigger change is one word. The 2025 notice said all resort dining, pools and amenities would stay open. The new one says most. Disney didn’t say what falls outside “most.”
Is Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace open?
Not yet. The outdoor patio at Trader Sam’s closed in April, when scaffolding went up around the Great Ceremonial House for exterior work.
Disney had most recently targeted late October for the Tiki Terrace to reopen. With the new timeline, check before you plan a night around it.
What’s happening with the Polynesian’s front entrance?
The resort has been reworking how guests arrive for a few years now.
December 2025: A new main entrance opened at Seven Seas Drive and Floridian Way, with a direct approach to the Great Ceremonial House.
January 2026: Exterior work on the Great Ceremonial House started blocking views from ʻOhana.
April 2026: Scaffolding wrapped the building, and Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace closed.
July 13, 2026: Disney permanently closed the Seven Seas Drive intersection at Floridian Way and opened the new bus loop.
October 2026: Disney extended the project through early 2027.
Driving directions are different now, too. Guests staying at Island Tower get different directions than those staying at the main resort, so double-check before you pull in.
What does this mean if you’re staying at the Polynesian?
Expect construction near the front entrance this winter. Most restaurants and pools should be open, but you may see walls, scaffolding or blocked views in some spots.
Disney’s newest notice also leaves out a 9 a.m. start time for noisy work that appeared in an earlier construction notice, so it’s not clear when the loudest work will happen each day.
Why is the Polynesian such a big deal?
It’s one of Walt Disney World’s original resorts. The Polynesian opened in 1971 on Seven Seas Lagoon, right on the monorail loop, and it’s home to fan favorites like ʻOhana, Kona Cafe and Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto.
It’s also gotten a lot bigger lately with the addition of Island Tower for Disney Vacation Club members. Once all this work wraps up, guests should have a smoother arrival and a fresh-looking Great Ceremonial House to show for it.
