Disneyland Magic Key holders can collect four free lenticular Haunted Mansion Holiday trading cards, one each Monday starting Oct. 26, to mark the overlay’s 25th year at the park.
Disneyland has a little something for Magic Key holders this fall, and it’s very on theme for Halloween.
Magic Key holders can pick up four free lenticular trading cards celebrating 25 years of Haunted Mansion Holiday, Disneyland announced on its Magic Key Instagram account, as reported by WDW News Today and Disney Dining.
Lenticular means the picture changes when you tilt it. Each card shows one of the Mansion’s transforming portraits, Haunted Mansion Holiday style.
The collection starts Monday, Oct. 26, and runs through Saturday, Nov. 21.
If you haven’t ridden it this year, here’s a full Haunted Mansion Holiday ride-through from The Disney Path:
When can you get the Haunted Mansion Holiday trading cards?
One new card drops each Monday, according to WDW News Today:
Card 1: Monday, Oct. 26
Card 2: Monday, Nov. 2
Card 3: Monday, Nov. 9
Card 4: Monday, Nov. 16
The whole collection wraps up Nov. 21. So if you can only make one trip, Nov. 16 through Nov. 21 is the window where all four are out.
Your first pickup also comes with a frame to display the full set. It has a purple Haunted Mansion wallpaper background.
What’s on the Haunted Mansion Holiday cards?
Four designs, according to WDW News Today and Disney Dining:
Jack Skellington
The Haunted Mansion itself
Sally
Zero pulling Santa Jack’s sleigh
They’re the kind of thing that’ll look great on a shelf next to a Nightmare Before Christmas collection.
Where do you pick up the Magic Key trading cards?
At three shops, during operating hours:
Disneyana in Disneyland Park
Kingswell Shop in Disney California Adventure
WonderGround Gallery in the Downtown Disney District
You’ll need to show a valid Magic Key. There’s a limit of one frame and one of each card per Magic Key holder.
That limit is per person, so a family of Magic Key holders can each grab a set. It also means no picking up extras for friends who don’t have a pass.
Since WonderGround Gallery is in Downtown Disney, you may not need park admission for that stop. Disneyland hasn’t spelled that out, though, so bring your park plans just in case.
How old is Haunted Mansion Holiday?
It turns 25 this season. The overlay first took over Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion in 2001, with Jack Skellington and the rest of Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas crew moving in for the holidays.
This year it opened Aug. 21 and runs through Jan. 6, 2027, Attractions Magazine reported. That’s a long run, covering both Halloween Time and the holiday season.
The Nightmare Before Christmas came out in 1993, so the overlay has now been around for most of the movie’s life. Disney Dining said the Magic Key Instagram post told fans to “Celebrate 25 years of the Haunted Mansion Holiday.”
Why are Magic Key holders getting a gift?
Disney didn’t say beyond the anniversary. Disney Dining tied it to recent headlines about the program.
Former Disney CEO Bob Chapek says in his new memoir that he considered getting rid of Disneyland’s annual passes. Disneyland replaced its old annual passports with the Magic Key in 2021, while he was CEO.
We covered that claim on Oct. 10. Whatever the reason, it’s a free set of collectibles, and it doesn’t require a purchase.
What else is happening at Disneyland this fall?
A lot of holiday prep. Snow caps are already going up on Sleeping Beauty Castle, and “it’s a small world” closes Oct. 30 for its holiday makeover before reopening Nov. 13, the first day of the holiday season.
Disneyland also marked down some Halloween merchandise by up to 40%, WDW News Today reported. The Mickey and Minnie light-up jack-o’-lanterns dropped from $39.99 to $23.99, and the Pastel Minnie ghost blow mold went from $69.99 to $41.99. The sale is at Disney Showcase, the Emporium and other shops around the resort, so it’s an easy add-on to a card run.
