Disney's Fanniversary Frenzy collections go online August 17
Ten anniversary collections debut at the D23 Marketplace this weekend, spanning 25 to 85 years of Disney history. What’s left goes up on DisneyStore.com Monday at 8 a.m. Pacific.
If you’re not in Anaheim this weekend, the date that matters is Monday.
Disney’s Fanniversary Frenzy collections go live on DisneyStore.com at 8 a.m. Pacific on August 17, at the site’s dedicated D23 event page. Ten collections, built around ten milestone anniversaries.
They debut first at the D23 Marketplace on the show floor, August 14 through 16.
What’s in the Fanniversary Frenzy collections
Apparel, accessories, dolls, plush, pins, and collectibles across the ten.
The Princess Diaries hits 25 years, and its collection includes a limited edition Mia Thermopolis doll. Beauty and the Beast marks 35. Alice in Wonderland marks 75. The Hunchback of Notre Dame marks 30. The Muppet Show reaches 50.
The oldest anniversary in the set runs back 85 years, which puts Dumbo in the group.
Disney has not published a full item list with pricing, so anyone planning around a specific piece will be shopping blind until the floor opens.
Which pieces already dropped early
Two collections got a head start.
The Alice in Wonderland and Hunchback of Notre Dame items released during D23 Day at Disneyland Resort on Thursday, ahead of the convention.
Anyone who was in the park that day had first access to those two.
How the August 17 online drop works
Whatever survives the weekend.
Disney’s language is that the collections will be sold via DisneyStore.com shortly after the event. Coverage has consistently read that as remaining stock rather than a fresh allocation, which is how these drops have historically gone.
An 8 a.m. Pacific start means 11 a.m. Eastern. Limited edition items in a Disney online drop tend to move in minutes, and the Mia Thermopolis doll is the likeliest thing in the set to go first.
Why this collection is aimed where it is
Twenty-five to eighty-five years is a wide net, and it isn’t cast at children.
A Princess Diaries quarter-century collection is for people who saw it in theaters at thirteen and are now in their late thirties with disposable income. The Muppet Show at fifty reaches further back than that.
Disney has been building merchandise for adults with childhood attachments for a while now. Ten collections at once, timed to a fan convention, with an online drop the following Monday, is that strategy operating at full size.
