New SkinnyDip apparel at Walt Disney World spells the fox’s name “Todd” on two separate items. It’s been Tod, with one D, since 1981. Disney’s own announcement of the anniversary collection misspells Copper as well.
The fox has been named Tod since 1981. One D.
New apparel at Walt Disney World spells it “Todd.” Twice, on two different items, in the same collection.
WDW News Today flagged it Wednesday, and the Disney fan internet did what it does.
What the misspelled Fox and the Hound items look like
The items come from SkinnyDip, a London-based fashion brand partnering with Disney.
The first is a white tee with Tod sitting among white daisies on the front and a daisy embroidered on one sleeve. The back shows Copper walking beside tall white flowers, with “Fox” and “Hound” in large pink bubble letters.
The second is a dark green sweatshirt. Copper and Tod sit on green leaves under the film’s title in yellow serif type, with a pink strawberry stitched at one sleeve. On the back, the two of them admire the same strawberry beneath the words “Grow Together,” their names printed in green beside the plant.
Tod is spelled “Todd” on both.
Two items means it came from the artwork, not the printer
A single misprint is a factory problem. The same error twice, across two different garments, points somewhere earlier in the process.
That suggests the misspelling lives in the source artwork, which means it cleared design, approval, and production without anyone catching a four-letter name that appears prominently in both designs.
You can find the items at Disney Ever After in Disney Springs, and the SkinnyDip line is also stocked at Disneyland Resort.
Disney misspelled the hound’s name too
Disney also did it!
The hound is named Copper. Disney’s own Parks Blog post announcing the 45th anniversary merchandise describes the mug as showing “canine companions Tod and Cooper caught in a playful scene.”
Oof. Cooper is not a character in this movie.
So one character’s name is wrong on the merchandise, and the other character’s name is wrong in the announcement about the merchandise.
(C’mon Disney. We know that this isn’t your most popular movie. But seriously?)
The clean Fox and the Hound collection is at World of Disney
If the typo bothers you, there’s a separate anniversary collection with no such problem.
The 45th Anniversary Collection at World of Disney, also in Disney Springs, includes a $24.99 mug molded to look like a tree trunk. It’s a genuinely nice piece, and The Fox and the Hound almost never gets merchandise attention at all, which is part of why fans noticed this collection in the first place.
Both shops sit in Disney Springs, so no park ticket is needed to go compare them.
Disney has a history of typos on signs and decor
This is not new territory. Early 2023 was a rough stretch in particular.
The Disney100 banner series arrived at Disneyland with several errors, including one listing the Matterhorn Bobsleds opening year as 1955 instead of 1959. Disney Parks archivist Jason Schultz caught that one. Another banner rendered the resort as “Walt Disneyworld.”
A platinum Mickey statue installed for the same celebration carried a misquoted Walt Disney line.
Construction walls around the Indiana Jones Adventure went up with multiple misspellings, later corrected.
Then a sign at the front of Disneyland promoting a Super Bowl LVII champions appearance invited guests to a cavalcade down “Main Stret, U.S.A.”
Disney built its reputation on obsessive detail, which produced an audience that inspects everything right back. Anything that slips gets caught within hours of hitting a shelf.
Will Disney pull the “Todd” merchandise?
Probably not, though there’s precedent both ways.
Disney has recalled items over significant errors before. Smaller ones have quietly stayed on shelves until the product cycled out naturally. This one belongs to a brand partner’s design and is already stocked in multiple locations, which makes a full recall less likely.
There’s also the possibility that fixing it creates the opposite problem.
Misprinted merchandise turns collectible fairly often, and if SkinnyDip corrects future runs, the “Todd” versions become a limited item that people will chase specifically because of the mistake.
