Elio Review - The Movie That Doesn't Look Very Pixar But Is Indeed Very Pixar

“Elio” has been released for previews today and I went to see it. Truthfully, I expected to not like it. What I saw in the trailers seemed like a story I wouldn’t be interested in, and many have said it didn’t seem like a very “Pixar” story, but it is indeed a good film that feels like a Pixar movie.

The lack of good marketing and past failure has likely harmed the potential box office for this film.

I think after “Lightyear,” “Elemental” and “Strange World” fans have been cautious about Walt Disney Animation / Pixar films. Even now the box office debut for “Elio” is not looking great, but this movie is, in fact, good.

“Elio” will especially resonate with those who have ever felt like they didn’t belong or felt like they needed to be less to fit in. It also has messages about loss, dealing with change, and the importance of family.

I also love how they incorporated the Voyager space probe and the Golden Record into the story.

As a child of the 80s I was always fascinated with space, from “Star Wars” to actual Space Camp, the Challenger, NASA, and the scary alien stories on “Unsolved Mysteries” were big parts of my youth. So I may be a bit biased toward the story.

This film has something for everyone in the family.

Currently “Elio” has an 87% Critical Score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The audience score or Popcornmeter doesn’t have an official number yet, but the reviews are predominantly positive so far.

I do recommend this film. My daughter gave it an 8/10. I would agree.

It was surprisingly good and much better than how it comes across in the trailers.
