A guest dove off EPCOT’s Gran Fiesta Tour boat ride into the water as friends cheered, in a video posted Oct. 6. Disney World says the guest and his group were trespassed from the resort.
A boat ride at EPCOT briefly turned into a swimming hole, and Disney was not a fan.
A video posted Tuesday, Oct. 6, shows a guest climbing out of his seat on Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros and diving into the water while the ride was moving. His friends cheer him on from the boat. One of them is filming.
Walt Disney World didn’t let it slide. “This behavior was unsafe and a clear violation of our park rules,” a resort representative told People. “The guest and his party were trespassed.”
What happened on the Three Caballeros ride at EPCOT?
Chef Michael Collantes posted the clip on Instagram. In it, a group of guests sits across two rows of a boat as one of them dives headfirst into the water.
Collantes wrote that it was “the second kid who jumped in“ and that the ride stopped for about 15 minutes. He also claimed the group “were chugging margaritas“ as they boarded.
He shared a second clip of the group getting off the boat when the ride ended. At the time, Collantes wrote, “we for sure thought security would be waiting.” Nobody was.
That changed later. Disney confirmed the whole group was trespassed.
What does it mean to be trespassed from Disney World?
It means Disney has banned them from its property. Jumping off a moving ride can lead to park bans and even arrests, Entrepreneur noted after a similar incident in 2023.
Disney didn’t say how long this ban lasts. It also didn’t say whether the second jumper Collantes mentioned was part of the same group.
Bans can be short-term for a year or so, or permanent. We don’t know which one it was, but former Cast Members think they got a lifetime ban.
Was this connected to the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival?
Maybe. The EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival is running now, from Aug. 27 to Nov. 21, and Collantes posted “Epcot food and too much wine!“ on his Instagram Stories.
Some commenters on Instagram claimed they saw the same group causing trouble near the festival’s Australia booth earlier, according to WDW News Today. Those claims haven’t been confirmed.
Other commenters doubted the dive was real at all. The water on a boat ride like this is shallow, with ride parts underneath, so a headfirst dive at that angle could have ended very badly.
Has anyone jumped off Gran Fiesta Tour before?
Yes, in June 2023, a woman jumped off the same ride after arguing with people on her boat. Witness videos of that one drew more than 2 million views on TikTok.
Security walked her out of the park that time.
So that’s at least two viral jumps from the same slow boat ride in a little over three years.
What is Gran Fiesta Tour at EPCOT?
It’s a gentle boat ride inside the Mexico Pavilion in EPCOT’s World Showcase. Guests float past scenes starring Donald Duck, Jose Carioca and Panchito from Disney’s 1944 movie The Three Caballeros.
The ride opened in its current form in 2007. Before that, it was El Rio del Tiempo, which opened with EPCOT in 1982.
It’s built for all ages, and it’s one of the calmer rides in the park. That’s part of why a cannonball off the side stood out so much.
What should you do if someone jumps off a Disney ride?
Stay in your seat and let the cast members handle it.
Travel creator TheRideView reposted the clip with a reminder for everyone else. Guests, he wrote, “are required to remain inside ride vehicles throughout the experience.”
Don’t behave like these people. It’s dangerous, and Cast Members have enough to deal with each day. They don’t need your moronic shenanigans on top of it. Frankly, they aren’t paid enough to deal with you.
Plus, there are dangerous tracks and things under the water. If he had gotten hurt, he could have sued the theme park for his own behavior. The liability issues give Disney a good reason to remove and ban you.
