Fyre Drill is down Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 9 and 10. Monsters Unchained follows with a maintenance closure Dec. 11 through Dec. 15, overlapping the last days of the Jurassic Park River Adventure refurbishment.
Two Epic Universe rides have closure dates on the calendar. Fyre Drill, the How to Train Your Dragon water ride, is closed Monday, Nov. 9, and Tuesday, Nov. 10.
Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment goes down for maintenance Dec. 11 through Dec. 15, Inside Universal reported Nov. 6. That puts it back on Dec. 16 if the schedule holds. Inside Universal noted that "these dates can change."
Universal listed the Fyre Drill dates in the Temporary Closures section of its park hours page, WDW News Today reported Nov. 5. TouringPlans shows the same two days. Universal hasn't given a reason for either closure.
Here's a look at Fyre Drill at Epic Universe:
Why is Fyre Drill closed Nov. 9 and 10?
Universal hasn't said. It isn't the ride's first closure this year. A refurbishment scheduled for Feb. 1 to 7 ran a week over, and Fyre Drill reopened Feb. 14, WDWNT reported.
It won't be the last one, either. WDWNT also lists another Fyre Drill closure from Jan. 25 to Feb. 4, 2027.
Fyre Drill sits in How to Train Your Dragon: Isle of Berk. Riders board boats that hold eight people, and each rider gets a water cannon to aim at painted wooden flames, TouringPlans says. The ride lasts about seven minutes. Viking twins Ruffnut and Tuffnut run the show.
TouringPlans is blunt about it: you will get wet. In mid-November, some guests won't mind sitting this one out.
When is Monsters Unchained closed?
Dec. 11 through Dec. 15, 2026, for maintenance, according to Inside Universal. That's five days, about two weeks before Christmas.
Monsters Unchained is the robotic arm dark ride in Dark Universe, set in the catacombs beneath the village of Darkmoor. It opened with Epic Universe on May 22, 2025. Universal's ride page lists a 48-inch height requirement and Universal Express access.
When we checked the ride's page Nov. 6, it didn't show a closure notice yet. Check the Universal Orlando app before you go.
Planning math: if you're visiting Dec. 11 to 15, you'll miss Monsters Unchained at Epic Universe and Jurassic Park River Adventure at Islands of Adventure on the same trip.
What's coming next to Dark Universe?
A coaster. Universal Orlando announced Nov. 5 that a new indoor roller coaster is coming to Dark Universe, right next to Monsters Unchained, Inside Universal reported.
It will have an original story inspired by Universal's classic monsters. Universal hasn't announced a name or an opening year, only that it's coming "in the years ahead." Construction is already underway, and WDWNT published aerial photos of the excavation Nov. 6.
What else is closed at Universal Orlando?
Inside Universal's weekly update lists these closures and changes around the resort:
Jurassic Park River Adventure, Islands of Adventure: Closed for a major refurbishment, scheduled to reopen Dec. 17
Volcano Bay: Closed for extended maintenance, scheduled to reopen on or before April 1, 2027
Po Live!, Universal Studios Florida: Closed for refurbishment, no reopening date
Horror Make-Up Show, Universal Studios Florida: Closed for a reimagining, back in winter 2026
Finnegan's Bar & Grill, Universal Studios Florida: Closed for refurbishment, back in winter 2026
Skull Island: Reign of Kong, Islands of Adventure: Running with a modified ending after damage to the King Kong animatronic
Animal Actors on Location!, Universal Studios Florida: Closed for good after its final day Nov. 2
Universal posts temporary closures on its park hours page, and dates can shift. If a ride is the reason for your trip, check again the week you go.
