Kim Richards and Ike Eisenmann, the sibling stars of Disney’s 1975 Escape to Witch Mountain, met fans together at a Burbank convention over the weekend.
Tia and Tony Malone are back together, at least for a weekend.
Kim Richards and Ike Eisenmann, who played the mysterious siblings in Disney’s Escape to Witch Mountain, reunited at The Hollywood Show, a fan convention in Burbank, California, over the weekend, Yahoo reported Monday.
Photos and videos posted to the convention’s Instagram Story showed the pair posing for pictures and talking about the movies at an Escape to Witch Mountain panel, according to Yahoo.
Richards is now 62, and Eisenmann is 64. The original movie came out in 1975, 51 years ago, when Richards was 9 and Eisenmann was 11, according to Entertainment Now.
What is Escape to Witch Mountain about?
Two orphans with strange powers. Tia and Tony can move objects with their minds, and Tia has visions, so a greedy millionaire wants to use them for his own gain.
The kids escape with help from a grumpy widower in a camper, and they head toward Witch Mountain to find out where they really came from.
Tony uses a harmonica to focus his powers, and the chase ends with one of the movie’s best-remembered moments: the siblings making the camper fly.
John Hough directed the movie, MickeyBlog noted. It was based on Alexander Key’s 1968 novel, and the cast included Eddie Albert, Ray Milland and Donald Pleasence.
It became one of Disney’s best-loved live-action movies of the 1970s, blending science fiction, fantasy and suspense, according to MickeyBlog. It came out the same decade as Disney’s Freaky Friday in 1976 and The Black Hole in 1979.
Did Kim Richards and Ike Eisenmann make more Witch Mountain movies?
Yes. They came back for Return from Witch Mountain in 1978, Yahoo reported.
That one put the siblings up against Bette Davis and Christopher Lee. Two years later, Davis starred in another Disney mystery, The Watcher in the Woods, which PNP looked back on Oct. 13.
Richards and Eisenmann also made cameos in Race to Witch Mountain, Disney’s 2009 remake starring Dwayne Johnson, AnnaSophia Robb and Alexander Ludwig, according to Yahoo. Robb and Ludwig played the new siblings, renamed Sara and Seth, with Johnson as the cab driver who helps them.
There was a made-for-TV version in 1995, too, with a different cast.
What did Ike Eisenmann say about Kim Richards?
That she’s family, in a way.
“I call her my fictional sister,” Eisenmann told Yahoo in an interview last month. “Because she is. She’s always a sister to me.”
The two don’t talk all the time, he said, but it doesn’t matter. “Every time we get back together, it’s like we go right back to those days.”
What is Ike Eisenmann’s memoir?
It’s called You’ll Never Be a Star: My Fantastic Journey to Disney, Star Trek and Beyond, and it came out earlier this year, according to Yahoo.
Eisenmann said the idea came from a DVD press tour he did with Richards after the 2009 remake. When it was over, he said, she hugged him and asked, “How do you remember all that stuff?”
That got him writing his memories down.
What else have Kim Richards and Ike Eisenmann done?
Plenty, starting young. According to Yahoo:
Kim Richards played Prudence Everett on the sitcom Nanny and the Professor and Olga on Little House on the Prairie in 1974. She later joined The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills with her sister, Kyle Richards.
Ike Eisenmann played Peter Preston, Scotty’s nephew, in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan in 1982.
Eisenmann also starred in NBC’s 1977 sci-fi series The Fantastic Journey.
Where can you watch Escape to Witch Mountain?
On Disney+. If the reunion has you feeling nostalgic, it’s an easy pick for a family movie night this fall, and a nice way to show kids what Disney’s live-action movies looked like before the remakes.
Just don’t be surprised if your kids start trying to move things with their minds.
