Every Marvel announcement from Disney’s D23: X-Men cast and Doomsday
Marvel Studios closed its D23 showcase by revealing the full X-Men cast, with Adam Driver joining as Mister Sinister. Avengers: Doomsday tickets went on sale, VisionQuest got its first trailer, and Marvel’s Wolverine got a new look.
Marvel saved the big one for last.
At the Disney Entertainment Showcase at D23 in Anaheim on August 14, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige closed his portion of the night by bringing out the cast of the X-Men movie, one actor at a time. It’s the announcement fans have been waiting on since Disney bought Fox in 2019.
The untitled film hits theaters May 5, 2028, with Jake Schreier directing.
The full X-Men cast revealed at D23
Feige started with Sadie Sink, who already introduced her Jean Grey as a villain in this summer’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, then brought out her new castmates.
The lineup:
Kit Connor as Scott Summers, better known as Cyclops
Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier
Samara Weaving as Emma Frost
Inde Navarrette as Rogue
Maya Boyd as Storm
Connor’s casting had been reported as in-talks earlier this month, and this makes it official. Navarrette’s is the fun surprise, since she’d previously said publicly that she’d met with Schreier about a different character entirely.
Feige noted the group had only just met backstage, which explains the slightly stunned look on several faces.
Adam Driver is Mister Sinister
Adam Driver appeared by video from Pinewood Studios to announce he’s playing Nathaniel Milbury. “Kevin and I have been talking for years about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” Driver said.
If that name means nothing to you, it means everything to comics readers. Nathaniel Milbury is an alias of Nathaniel Essex, the Victorian scientist better known as Mister Sinister, created by Chris Claremont and Marc Silvestri and first fully appearing in Uncanny X-Men #221 in 1987.
In the comics, “Mr. Milbury” ran the Nebraska orphanage where a young Scott Summers grew up, secretly experimenting on the boy who’d become Cyclops. Sinister’s entire multi-generational obsession is the Summers and Grey bloodlines.
So Marvel didn’t just cast a villain. It cast the one villain whose whole reason for existing is the two leads it already cast. Driver’s character has personal history with Connor’s Cyclops and a fixation on Sink’s Jean Grey.
Fox teased Sinister for years and never delivered. The Essex Corp briefcase in the X-Men: Apocalypse post-credits scene went nowhere. Marvel just did it in one announcement.
Avengers: Doomsday tickets are on sale now
Before the X-Men reveal, Feige brought out Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Hayley Atwell for a look at Avengers: Doomsday.
Downey is playing Victor von Doom, Evans returns as Steve Rogers, and Atwell as Peggy Carter.
The actionable part: tickets are on sale as of Friday, at Fandango and everywhere else. The film hits theaters December 18, 2026, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo.
The cast list is absurd, running from Chris Hemsworth and Pedro Pascal through Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Channing Tatum, Rebecca Romijn, and roughly thirty others. Three universes colliding, per Marvel’s description.
VisionQuest gets its first trailer
Paul Bettany took the stage with James Spader, who plays Ultron, to debut the trailer and poster for VisionQuest, arriving on Disney+ on October 14, 2026.
The series closes out the trilogy that started with WandaVision in 2021 and continued with Agatha All Along in 2024. Vision has been rebooted, escaped the people who wanted to weaponize him, and gone into hiding.
He consults the AI personas built into his own programming, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S., and Ultron, which is how you get Spader back. A bounty forces him on the run with a boy named Thomas Shepard, who may be Vision’s son, reincarnated.
Marvel’s Wolverine got a new trailer
Marvel closed with a game. A new trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine debuted during the showcase, from Insomniac Games with Marvel Games and Sony.
It arrives on PlayStation 5 on September 15.
That’s four weeks out, which makes it the first of everything announced Friday night that anybody actually gets to touch. Everything else is a wait, and the longest wait belongs to the one people care most about. May 2028 is a long time to sit with a cast list this good.
