Father Jumps Overboard To Save Daughter Who Fell Off Disney Cruise Ship
What began as a magical return voyage aboard the Disney Dream quickly turned into a harrowing moment at sea on June 29, when a child fell overboard and her father jumped in to save her— prompting a dramatic rescue that underscored the swift, lifesaving readiness of the ship’s crew.
The Disney Dream, part of the Disney Cruise Line fleet, was nearing the end of a four-night Bahamian cruise, en route to Fort Lauderdale when the incident happened. The distress call came over the intercom in the form of the emergency code “Mr. M.O.B.” — signaling a man overboard. The announcement launched an immediate and coordinated response from the ship’s emergency team.
Father Leaps in After Daughter
According to eyewitness accounts, the child reportedly fell from Deck 4, an outdoor area that includes a walking track with plexiglass barriers. In a split-second act of parental instinct, the child’s father jumped overboard in an attempt to rescue her.
Fellow passenger Kevin Furuta recounted the ordeal in a Facebook post, writing: “A girl fell overboard from the 4th deck & her dad went in after her ... Thankfully the DCL rescue team was on it immediately and both were saved!”
Videos have been posted on TikTok showing the rescue.

Swift, Coordinated Response from Crew
Disney Cruise Line confirmed the incident and praised its crew members for their quick response. “The Crew aboard the Disney Dream swiftly rescued two guests from the water,” a Disney spokesperson told USA TODAY. “We commend our Crew Members for their exceptional skills and prompt actions, which ensured the safe return of both guests to the ship within minutes.”
Cruise passengers described a highly efficient rescue operation: crew members launched life preservers and deployed a rescue vessel within moments of the alert. The entire process — from the fall to recovery — reportedly took only minutes.
Safety Measures and Technology in Action
Although the circumstances surrounding how the child fell overboard remain unclear, Disney ships — like many in the cruise industry — are equipped with overboard detection systems designed to instantly notify crew members of such emergencies.
The incident serves as a reminder of the critical importance of onboard safety protocols, as well as the vigilance and professionalism of crew teams trained for worst-case scenarios.
No Delays, But Lingering Questions
Despite the incident, the Disney Dream continued its journey without notable delay. Passengers on board later expressed relief and admiration for the crew’s handling of the situation, which could have otherwise ended in tragedy.
As of now, Disney Cruise Line has not released further details about the condition of the child or father, and it remains unclear what led to the fall.
