Ferrero is putting Marvel on Butterfinger, Crunch and Tic Tac in summer 2027, including a Green Apple Smash for the Hulk and a Crunch Infinity bar for Loki.
The Hulk is getting his own Butterfinger, and it’s green apple flavored.
Ferrero, the company behind Nutella, Butterfinger and Kinder, announced a batch of Marvel candy at the NACS Show in Las Vegas on Oct. 7. The lineup is due in summer 2027.
Ferrero calls them “limited-edition innovations.” Each one gets a different Marvel character on the package.
What Marvel candy is Ferrero making?
Here’s the lineup from Ferrero’s announcement:
Butterfinger Green Apple Smash, with the Hulk on the package
Crunch Infinity Chocolate, with Loki
Tic Tac Berry & Lime, with Mister Fantastic
Ferrero’s announcement image shows even more Marvel packaging, with heroes on Kinder Bueno, BabyRuth, 100 Grand, Buncha Crunch and regular Butterfinger and Crunch bars. Groot and Rocket get the Buncha Crunch bag.
Food Dive reported that Green Apple Smash is inspired by apple slices dipped in peanut butter, which is a pretty clever way to turn a Butterfinger green. Crunch Infinity Chocolate has cocoa crisp rice, according to the same report.
The Hulk on a green apple candy bar makes sense. Loki on a candy called Infinity makes sense too, if you’ve seen the Avengers movies. Mister Fantastic on a Tic Tac is the wild card, but the guy can stretch, so maybe the mints last longer.
Will there be Marvel Kinder toys?
Yes. The Marvel deal goes beyond candy bars.
Ferrero says Kinder Joy eggs will get a collectible Marvel toy assortment, with characters like Spider-Man, Captain America and Black Panther. Kinder Chocolate packs will come with collectible cards in 20 Marvel character designs.
The whole program comes with custom packaging, store displays, ads and “a national consumer promotion,” according to Ferrero.
When can you buy Ferrero’s Marvel candy?
Ferrero says summer 2027. It hasn’t given an exact date or named any retailers.
Because the news came out of NACS, a trade show for convenience stores, expect gas stations and convenience stores to be a big part of the rollout. Ferrero’s announcement talks about displays at the front of stores and in candy aisles.
Ferrero also hasn’t tied the candy to a specific Marvel movie, so don’t read too much into the timing.
What did Ferrero say about the Marvel deal?
Michael Lindsey, president and chief business officer of Ferrero North America, called Marvel “a powerful platform to excite fans and introduce Ferrero brands to new audiences.”
Jim Klein, chief customer officer of Ferrero USA, was even more direct. “These are tier one disruptive innovations,” he said.
Klein said the products should “help c-stores grow incremental sales across their categories.” That’s corporate for “we think these will sell.”
Who owns Butterfinger and Crunch?
Ferrero does, and has since 2018. That’s when it bought Nestle’s U.S. candy business, which included Butterfinger, Crunch and BabyRuth, in a deal worth about $2.8 billion.
Ferrero has been growing fast in the U.S. since then. Lindsey told Food Dive the company is “entering that powerhouse territory” as it competes with Hershey and Mars.
Marvel is a big swing in that fight. It puts Ferrero’s candy next to some of the most recognizable characters in the world.
What else is new from Ferrero?
The Marvel lineup was one part of a larger NACS announcement. Ferrero billed the whole thing as a mix of “major new collaborations and creative combinations” across its U.S. brands.
Marvel is owned by Disney, which makes this a crossover worth watching for Disney fans who also have a sweet tooth. If the Green Apple Smash is good, the Hulk might finally have something to be happy about.
