A warehouse fire in Chessy, France, sent a plume of black smoke over Disneyland Paris on Monday night, Sept. 21. No injuries were reported, and the fire was out by Tuesday morning.
Guests at Disneyland Paris got an unexpected sight Monday night: a huge column of black smoke rising just past the resort.
A warehouse fire broke out around 8 p.m. local time on Monday, Sept. 21, in Chessy, the French town where the resort sits, according to Belgian outlet La Libre and other European media. The smoke was easy to see from inside the parks, and videos from guests spread fast online.
The good news: no injuries were reported, and the main fire was out by Tuesday morning, French outlet actu.fr reported.
Where was the fire near Disneyland Paris?
The fire was at a warehouse across the road from the resort. It was not on Disneyland Paris property.
The building covered about 1,600 square meters, or roughly 17,000 square feet. The fire spread through the ground floor and the first floor and broke through the roof, the local fire service, SDIS 77, said, as quoted by La Libre.
In French, the fire service put it this way: “L’incendie impacte le rez-de-chaussée, le premier étage et a percé en toiture.” In plain English, the fire hit two floors and burned through the top of the building.
How many firefighters responded to the Chessy fire?
It was a big response. About 85 firefighters and around 30 vehicles were sent to the scene, Le Parisien reported, as cited by Disney Dining.
Crews worked for several hours to get the fire under control. The cause hasn’t been announced.
Was Disneyland Paris evacuated because of the fire?
No. The parks were not evacuated, and fan sites including Inside the Magic reported that the resort kept running as normal Monday night.
Disney hasn’t released a statement about the fire. Officials also haven’t announced any smoke warnings or road closures for the area, as of Tuesday.
Is Disneyland Paris open today after the fire?
Nothing so far suggests the fire has affected the resort’s regular schedule. The fire was out by Tuesday morning and was off Disney property, so there’s no sign the parks will be affected.

Where is Chessy, France?
