Muppet*Vision 3D is gone, but its old waiting room is getting a monster makeover, and now we have a peek.
New concept art at the Walt Disney Imagineering Presents exhibit at Disney’s Hollywood Studios shows the pre-show room for the Glob Theater, the new show building coming to Monstropolis, WDWMagic reported Monday, Sept. 28.
The theater is being built inside the former Muppet*Vision 3D building.
What does the Glob Theater pre-show look like?
Monster-themed from top to bottom.
The art shows a detailed room with monster-themed decor on the walls, monster-themed chandeliers and a “Monster Concessions” counter in the middle, per WDWMagic. Doors on the right lead into the theater itself.
Look closely, and the room’s bones will seem familiar. WDWMagic noted that the layout and general shape of the space appear to carry over from Muppet*Vision 3D’s pre-show area, which was packed with prop crates, hanging nets and Muppet memorabilia.
What show will play in the Glob Theater?
It’s called “Welcome to Monstropolis,” hosted by Mike and Sulley from “Monsters, Inc.”
The show features an original song with the same name by Disney Legend Randy Newman, per WDWMagic. Newman wrote the music for the “Monsters, Inc.” movies, including the Oscar-winning “If I Didn’t Have You.”
Disney hasn’t shared what happens during the pre-show itself. But WDWMagic said the detailed art suggests a fully themed room, not just a place to stand and wait.
When does Monstropolis open at Hollywood Studios?
2027, per WDWMagic.
Monstropolis is the new “Monsters, Inc.” land taking over the Grand Avenue area of the park, where Muppet*Vision 3D used to be. Construction photos show steady progress, and scaffolding recently came down around the Glob Theater, with a marquee on the way, per WDWMagic.
What else is in the Imagineering exhibit?
More Monstropolis art. The display also includes concept pieces for the Glob Theater’s outside, the land’s entrance arch and a dining spot, plus painted models of “monster-fied” critters, including a Monster Pigeon, a Splitting Hare and a Monster Squirrel, per WDWMagic.

Why did Muppet*Vision 3D close?
To make room for Monstropolis. The 3D film had played at Hollywood Studios since 1991 and closed in 2025.
Fans were sad to see it go. It was one of Jim Henson’s last projects, and it was packed with jokes from the Muppets, including Sam the Eagle’s famous patriotic finale that went wrong.
The Muppets still have a home at Disney parks, though. They now appear before World of Color at Disney California Adventure, and Disney has been celebrating the Muppet Show’s 50th anniversary with new merchandise this fall.
When will Disney share more about Monstropolis?
Disney hasn’t set a date for the next big reveal. Updates to the exhibit, like this one, and construction photos have been the main clues so far, and fans have been tracking both closely.
