Hulu has no plans to order more seasons of Matt Groening’s cartoon. Three supersized specials are still on the way, starting with a Robot Santa Christmas episode in 2027.
Good news, everyone. Well, half good.
“Futurama” is ending its regular run with Season 14. Hulu has no plans to order more seasons after the Season 14 finale, which is streaming now, TVLine reported Monday, Sept. 28, citing Variety.
But creator Matt Groening isn’t reading it as a funeral.
“They can put us in a coffin, they can nail the lid shut, but they can’t bury us,” Groening told Variety. “We will rise again. I guess I’m not too worried.”
Is Futurama canceled?
Sort of. No new seasons are planned, but the show isn’t totally done.
Three “supersized” specials are still set to stream on Hulu, per TVLine. The first is a Christmas special in 2027 that brings back Robot Santa, the murderous holiday robot fans have loved since the Fox years.
Hulu hasn’t announced dates or titles for the other two.
What did Matt Groening say about Futurama ending?
He’s been here before, and he joked about it in the show itself.
“The thing about ‘Is Futurama coming to an end?’ Well, we’ve come to an end many times before,” Groening told Variety. “We make a joke about it with the season finale. It’s redundantly, fatalistically titled.”
That title is “Final Ending: The Last Conclusion.” Subtle, it is not.
Groening added that the team would love to keep going. “We have lots more stories to tell,” he said. “The animators and the actors and the writers all would love to do more stories and we’ll see. You never know.”
What will the Futurama specials be about?
Groening is keeping the details quiet, but he dropped a tease for longtime fans.
“Stuff that we have hinted at from the very beginning is finally paid off, and some unanswered questions for true fans will finally be answered,” he told Variety. “But I can’t really be more specific.”
That’s a big promise from a show that has been planting clues since 1999, and fans have been trading theories about those clues for just as long.
How many times has Futurama been canceled?
This is at least the third time the show has lost its home.
The short version, by network:
Fox: “Futurama” premiered in 1999 and aired five seasons there before it was canceled.
Comedy Central: The network revived it and carried it through Season 10 before canceling it again in 2013.
Hulu: Disney-owned Hulu brought it back a decade later and streamed four more seasons, per TVLine.
In between, the show also came back as four direct-to-video movies, starting with “Bender’s Big Score” in 2007.
So when Groening says “we will rise again,” he has the track record to back it up.
Where can you watch Futurama?
Every season, including Season 14, streams on Hulu. Hulu is also available inside the Disney+ app for subscribers who have both services.
That makes this a Disney story, too. Hulu is owned by Disney, and “Futurama” is one of several Groening shows living under the Disney roof now. “The Simpsons” moved over after Disney bought 21st Century Fox in 2019, and it streams on Disney+.
Who voices the Futurama characters?
The main cast has stuck around through every revival. Billy West voices Fry, Professor Farnsworth and Zoidberg, Katey Sagal voices Leela and John DiMaggio voices Bender.
That longevity is part of why fans keep showing up. The same voices have followed these characters across three networks and more than 25 years.

Will Futurama come back again?
Nobody can promise that. Hulu hasn’t ordered more, and Groening said “we’ll see.”
But this show has been declared dead so many times that the finale’s title is a joke about it. With three specials still coming, “Futurama” is still breathing. Fry spent 1,000 years frozen in a cryogenic tube, after all, and he came out fine.
