George Lucas Is in 'Minions and Monsters'
ABC has revealed the George Lucas is voicing a character in 'Minions and Monsters'
Illumination’s third Minions film, ‘Minions and Monsters,’ is releasing on July 1, 2026. This movie is inspired by the 1920s “Golden Era” of Hollywood. The Minions want to make a monster film, so they decide to conjure a monster. Like all Minions films, it goes wrong, which is hopefully a right move for the box office.
The movie has several actors voicing characters like Jeff Bridges playing the 1920s studio head, Trey Parker as Goomi, Jesse Eisenberg as Dort, and Pierre Coffin as the Minions (and the real director of the film).
But fans are excited about another director after ABC dropped that George Lucas will be voicing a character in the movie!
“Even George Lucas lends his voice to the film.”
If he’s playing himself or another character, we don’t know, but it’s exciting!
According to IGN, Chris Meledandri (Illumination CEO) wanted to put George Lucas in the film, and he said Lucas agreed!
“An idea for a character came up out of the story, and so I said to Pierre [Coffin], who co-wrote the movie with Brian Lynch, and Bill Ryan, who produces with me on the film, and I just said, ‘Well, what if we could get George?’ And they’re like, ‘Are you kidding me?’ I had no idea, but I got such a fast yes,” Meledandri said. “It was incredible. So, we’re thrilled to have him in the film.”
Meledandri continued, explaining he has met George Lucas previously and he was a fan of “Despicable Me” and “Minions”
(That had to be so amazing for Meledandri to hear!)
"I had this privilege of meeting George about two years ago, and what led to my meeting him is how much he loves Illumination movies, and specifically Despicable Me, and even more specifically, the Minions," Meledandri explained. "It was such a thrill to learn that and then to share it with the team, because obviously he's among a very small group of people who the entire studio shares a level of respect for that is just off the charts."
How exciting for Minions fans!
‘Minions and Monsters’ will be released on July 1. Only two weeks after ‘Toy Story 5’.
Families have a lot to look forward to in the next couple of weeks.
