A new poster for HBO’s “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” shows a redesigned Hogwarts reflected in Harry’s glasses. The series premieres Christmas 2026 on HBO and HBO Max.
HBO released a new poster for its “Harry Potter” series on Thursday, Oct. 29, and the star might be the building in Harry’s glasses. The close-up shows a redesigned Hogwarts castle reflected in his lenses, according to SFFGazette and Variety India.
The poster arrives less than two months before the show’s Christmas premiere. Fans are already squinting at those tiny towers.
What does the new Hogwarts castle look like?
The poster is a tight close-up of Dominic McLaughlin as Harry. Hogwarts sits in the reflection of his round glasses, according to Variety India.
SFFGazette called it the first look at the school in the series. The writer said the castle differs from the films but keeps a similar overall look. It appears “a little less stylised than its predecessor,” the outlet said, and fits into a Scottish Highlands setting.
Inside the Magic described a denser cluster of Gothic towers and pointed spires that looks more sprawling than the film version.
Fan account Wizarding World Direct also shared an animated version of the castle on X, according to Inside the Magic.
What else is on the HBO Harry Potter poster?
The poster also shows Harry’s lightning bolt scar up close. SFFGazette said it looks less artificial than the movie version, more like an old wound.
The tagline reads “The Boy Who Lived,” according to Variety India. The image was shared on the official Harry Potter Instagram account.
Some fans were quick to point out that Harry’s eyes look blue. In the books, they’re green. SFFGazette noted that Daniel Radcliffe had blue eyes, too.
Has Hogwarts appeared in HBO’s Harry Potter trailers?
Yes, in pieces. HBO released a full trailer on Sept. 2 that showed the Great Hall, flying lessons on the grounds and a troll standoff in the dungeons, according to 3DVF.
The first teaser came out in March. HBO said that teaser drew about 277 million organic views across platforms in its first 48 hours, a record for HBO and HBO Max.
In March, HBO also shared an image of Harry walking toward the quidditch pitch. Variety Australia credited production designer Mara LePere-Schloop with the school’s look.
How is the new Hogwarts different from the movie castle?
The film castle was built largely as a detailed studio model, which now sits at the end of the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London. Theme park fans also know a version of it from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal.
Early descriptions suggest HBO’s castle keeps the same basic shape. SFFGazette said it looks more grounded and realistic. Inside the Magic said it looks bigger and more imposing.
One small poster is not much to judge from. Expect plenty more castle shots once the series arrives.
When does HBO’s Harry Potter series premiere?
“Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” premieres Friday, Dec. 25, 2026, on HBO, according to Variety India and SFFGazette. It streams on HBO Max where available.
Warner Bros. Discovery has said the eight-episode first season will debut at Christmas 2026. The season adapts the first book. HBO has not confirmed whether later episodes roll out weekly, according to MuggleNet.
