Hidden Valley launched Spooky Ranch, a jet-black version of its Original Ranch in a glow-in-the-dark bottle. It’s the brand’s first seasonal product in 72 years, it’s at Walmart only, and the color comes from fruit juice and cocoa.
Hidden Valley launched Spooky Ranch on Sept. 24, taking its Original Ranch recipe and turning it a deep black for Halloween.
Better yet, the bottle glows in the dark!
It costs $3.97 and is sold only at Walmart, while supplies last.
This is a first for a 72-year-old brand
Hidden Valley was founded in 1954. In all that time, the company has never done a seasonal product, but Spooky Ranch is the first.
The black color comes from fruit juice and cocoa
The dressing isn’t dyed with anything synthetic.
Hidden Valley says the color comes from fruit juice and cocoa powder, and that Spooky Ranch contains no artificial flavors. It’s also gluten free.
The flavor is meant to be unchanged. Same Original Ranch, different color.
It’s a Walmart exclusive
You will not find this anywhere else.
Spooky Ranch is a Walmart exclusive for the Halloween season.
The release does not say how long it runs beyond “a limited time” and “while supplies last.” Halloween is Oct. 31, so till it runs out.
Hidden Valley is aiming this at pizza night
The company made its target obvious.
The release calls Halloween “the year’s #1 pizza holiday” and pitches the dressing for drizzling on pizza at parties.
Ranch on pizza is one of those things people either do constantly or find baffling, with very little in between. Hidden Valley is betting on the first group, on the one night of the year when the most pizza gets ordered.
The other use case is dipping. Black ranch next to a plate of vegetables or chips reads as a party centerpiece more than a condiment.
The glow-in-the-dark bottle is the real product
Be honest about what’s being sold here.
The dressing is cool, but the bottle glows in the dark.
A glow-in-the-dark bottle is a decoration that comes with food in it. Put it on a snack table, turn the lights down, and it does something no other condiment on the table does.
“Spooky Ranch takes everything fans love about Original Ranch and adds a little Halloween magic,” said Stacy Stokes, vice president of marketing at Hidden Valley. “With a haunting hue and glow-in-the-dark packaging, this twist on the flavor you love is the perfect way to bring some frightful fun to your favorite costume parties and fall festivities.”
Hidden Valley has been busy this year
The brand has been unusually active.
Earlier in 2026, Hidden Valley launched three new flavors, including an avocado oil version, and YumYum, aimed at younger home cooks who want bolder options.
It also ran a promotion hiring four “Ranch-bassadors” to travel across Europe, timed to National Ranch Day and America’s upcoming 250th anniversary.
Spooky Ranch is out now. At $3.97 for something that glows, it is one of the cheaper Halloween decorations available this year, and you can eat it.
