The Hogwarts Express is closed for just one day, Wednesday, Nov. 4, and Universal plans to reopen it Nov. 5. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey and two other rides go down for refurbishment early in 2027.
If your Universal Orlando plan for Wednesday includes taking the train to Hogsmeade, pack walking shoes.
The Hogwarts Express is closed Wednesday, Nov. 4, at both stations: King's Cross at Universal Studios Florida and Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure. Universal's attraction page says the ride "plans to reopen to Guests on November 5th, 2026." Universal hasn't given a reason.
So this is a one-day break, not a long refurb. WDW News Today first spotted the Nov. 4 closure back in October, before Universal posted a reopening date.
Both Wizarding World lands stay open. You'll just have to walk between Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade instead of riding.

What rides are closing at Universal Orlando in 2027?
Universal's official park hours page lists three ride refurbishments early next year, plus one whole water park that's already dark:
Popeye and Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges (Islands of Adventure): Jan. 4 to Feb. 2, 2027.
Fyre Drill (Epic Universe): Jan. 25 to Feb. 4, 2027.
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey (Islands of Adventure): Feb. 8 to Feb. 19, 2027.
Universal Volcano Bay: Closed for maintenance now, with a planned reopening "on or before April 1, 2027," Universal says.
Forbidden Journey is the big one for Potter fans. That's 12 days without the Hogwarts castle ride, right in the middle of February. If it's a must-do, plan around Feb. 8 to 19.
The two water rides overlap, too. From Jan. 25 to Feb. 2, both the Bilge-Rat Barges and Fyre Drill are down. Not that January in Orlando is peak soaking weather.
Is anything else at Universal Orlando closed right now?
Yes, and one of them isn't coming back:
Animal Actors On Location! at Universal Studios Florida closed for good after Monday, Nov. 2. The show had been there since the park opened in 1990. Universal says the space will make way for "a new experience," with no details yet.
Jurassic Park River Adventure at Islands of Adventure has been down since Jan. 5. Universal now lists Dec. 16 as the end of the refurbishment.
Po Live! in DreamWorks Land has been closed since Oct. 3, with no reopening date.
Universal Orlando's Horror Make-Up Show has been closed since May 12. Universal lists it through "Winter 2026."
Fyre Drill also closes for two days, Nov. 9 and 10, before its longer January break.
Do you need a park-to-park ticket for the Hogwarts Express?
Yes. The train connects two separate parks, so you need a park-to-park ticket to ride it. That doesn't change on Wednesday. You still need park-to-park to visit both Wizarding World lands in one day, train or no train.
Without the train, the trip between King's Cross and Hogsmeade means walking out of one park, through CityWalk and into the other. Give yourself extra time, especially if you have a timed reservation on the other side.
Should you change your Universal Orlando plans?
For Wednesday, probably not much. Here's what we'd do:
Visiting Nov. 4: Do one Wizarding World land in the morning and the other in the afternoon, so you only make the walk once.
Visiting in late January or February 2027: Check Universal's park hours page before you book. Refurbishment dates can move.
Planning a water park day: Volcano Bay won't be back until spring, so it's off the table for winter trips.
The holiday season starts Nov. 14, so the train should be back with plenty of time to spare. Hogsmeade in the snow is better from a window seat anyway.
