Disneyland’s Indiana Jones Adventure has been closed since Sept. 8. The park’s website now lists an Oct. 23 return, as a Disney World version with Harrison Ford’s likeness gets closer.
Indy’s Jeeps are almost back on the road.
Indiana Jones Adventure will reopen at Disneyland Park on Friday, Oct. 23, according to the attraction’s page on the Disneyland website. Daps Magic and Mickey Visit both spotted the date this week.
The ride closed for refurbishment on Sept. 8, Mickey Visit reported. Disney didn’t give a reopening date at the time, as we reported in September.
Disneyland is open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Oct. 23, so there’s plenty of time to ride on day one, Mickey Visit noted.
Here’s a recent ride-through from LMG Vids, filmed before the closure:
What was Disney working on at Indiana Jones Adventure?
Disney hasn’t said. Nothing has been announced about what work was done during the refurbishment, according to Mickey Visit.
Walls have been up in front of the ride in Adventureland for the past month, Daps Magic reported.
Another Disneyland refurbishment came with a surprise earlier this year. Pirates of the Caribbean came back with a new Audio-Animatronics pirate with a projected face, a change that split fans, Mickey Visit noted.
What is Indiana Jones Adventure?
It’s an indoor thrill ride where guests board a troop transport through the Temple of the Forbidden Eye, then try to escape the wrath of the goddess Mara. It opened at Disneyland in 1995 and quickly became one of the park’s most popular rides, according to Daps Magic.
Thirty-plus years later, it still is.
The Jeeps use Disney’s Enhanced Motion Vehicle system, which lets them pitch and bounce as they drive. Disney’s patent for the vehicle was granted in April 1997.
A second version opened at Tokyo DisneySea in 2001 as Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Crystal Skull, Daps Magic said. It has no connection to the 2008 movie with a similar name.
Is there an Indiana Jones ride coming to Disney World?
Yes. Disney is turning the former DINOSAUR ride at Disney’s Animal Kingdom into Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent, set to open in 2027, according to Mickey Visit.
It uses the same Jeep ride system as Disneyland’s version, but tells a different story.
Harrison Ford said in a video at D23 in August that he’s the model for the new Indy animatronic, “fear of snakes included,” SYFY Wire reported.
What else is closed for refurbishment at Disneyland?
A few things are coming and going, according to Mickey Visit:
Mad Tea Party closed the same day as Indy, Sept. 8. It reopened on Friday, Oct. 16, with refreshed elements and a new digital sign, WDW News Today reported.
“it’s a small world” closes Oct. 30 to become “it’s a small world” Holiday, which opens Nov. 13. Oct. 29 is the last day to ride the regular version.
Redwood Creek Challenge Trail at Disney California Adventure closes Nov. 1 so its Villains Grove decorations can come down. Santa’s Holiday Visit takes over the space Nov. 13.
When is the best time to ride Indiana Jones Adventure after it reopens?
Expect a crowd on day one, since fans have waited six weeks.
If you’re going the week of Oct. 23, the first and last hours of the day are usually the best bet for any popular ride.
What other Indiana Jones news is there at Disney parks?
Plenty for a franchise without a new movie. At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular got a new construction permit this week, as we reported.
There’s also Project Fedora, a rumored Indiana Jones play area at Disney World that we covered earlier this week. Disney hasn’t confirmed it.
And Raiders of the Lost Ark turned 45 this year. It went back into British theaters for the anniversary in September, Film Stories reported.
How long has Indiana Jones Adventure been closed?
Just over six weeks, from Sept. 8 to Oct. 23.
Snakes. Why’d it have to be snakes? At least the Jeeps will be back.
