What is changing with Carnival’s free laundry
The perk is not vanishing from the program.
Carnival is reducing the amount of complimentary laundry service available rather than removing it, per reporting from Cruise Hive on August 28.
Loyalty members at eligible tiers will still receive laundry service. They will receive less of it.
Carnival has not published a detailed breakdown of the new limits by tier, which is what guests want to know.
Why free laundry matters more than it sounds
For anyone who has not cruised long enough to care, the perk is genuinely useful.
Onboard laundry runs expensive. Self-service machines cost money per load and per dry cycle, and full-service laundry is priced per garment.
On a longer sailing, complimentary laundry meaningfully reduces how much a family needs to pack, which cascades into checked baggage fees on the flight to the port.
It is one of the few loyalty perks that saves money rather than adding an amenity.
What Carnival Rewards is
The program replaced Carnival’s long-running VIFP Club structure.
Carnival Rewards operates on a points system, with benefits accumulating as guests sail more. Higher tiers unlock priority boarding, onboard credit, complimentary services, and other perks.
The transition drew significant discussion among frequent cruisers when it was announced, largely because it changed how status was earned rather than simply how it was rewarded.
What else Carnival announced
The line had a busy few days beyond the loyalty change.
Carnival opened bookings for new 2028-2029 Mexico sailings from the Port of Long Beach in California, kicking off its West Coast season for those years.
The line also made minor itinerary adjustments to 11 sailings across four ships spanning 2026 to 2028, and Carnival Paradise is switching private destination port visits for one November 2026 sailing without losing port time.
Carnival is separately testing later hours for Guy’s Burger Joint on one ship, with positive feedback potentially spreading the change fleetwide.
Other cruise lines opening 2028 bookings
Carnival is not alone in looking that far ahead.
Holland America Line opened bookings for its 2028 Alaska season on August 27, with sailings running seven to 18 days. New itineraries include an 11-day California to Alaska voyage departing San Diego for Vancouver on April 29, 2028, and a 16-day Great Bear Rainforest & Alaska Explorer roundtrip from Vancouver.
Princess Cruises is adding calls at RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay to select Caribbean itineraries beginning November 2026, including on Sun Princess and Regal Princess.
Royal Caribbean is expanding its Asia Pacific offerings with Voyager of the Seas in 2028.
Disney Cruise Line unveiled Fall 2027 and Spring 2028 itineraries, bringing the Disney Wish back to New York City for the first time since 2023 and giving the Disney Adventure its first-ever port of call at Langkawi, Malaysia.
Disney’s current savings offer, taking up to $500 off per guest, expires tomorrow, August 30. It applies to existing reservations in eligible stateroom categories.
Castaway Club early bookings for the new itineraries open August 31, with general bookings September 8.
