Rumor: The Bear star Jeremy Allen White has met with Marvel about a small X-Men role tied to Wolverine, Jeff Sneider's The InSneider reported. At 5-foot-7, he'd be 7 inches shorter than Hugh Jackman.
Marvel's next Wolverine might be a chef. That's the rumor, anyway.
Jeremy Allen White, the two-time Emmy winner from FX's The Bear, has reportedly met with Marvel Studios about its X-Men reboot, according to Jeff Sneider's newsletter, The InSneider. Sneider wrote there are "whispers" of the meeting, about "what is expected to be a small role."
Sneider framed it around the search for Wolverine. He added that the part would lead to more screen time down the line. "A lot more," he wrote, SlashFilm reported.
This is a rumor. Marvel hasn't commented, and nobody has reported a deal or even formal negotiations. Some headlines say White is "in talks." The original report only describes a meeting.
Here's White telling Josh Horowitz about his last, very awkward Marvel meeting:
Who first reported Jeremy Allen White as Wolverine?
The InSneider, Sneider's Substack newsletter, on Tuesday, Nov. 3. The item ran under a subtitle about "the search for Wolverine" and "the Emmy-winning actor who has already met with Marvel."
By midday Wednesday, World of Reel, JoBlo, SlashFilm, CBR and ComicBookMovie had picked it up. ComicBookMovie's first headline only teased a 5-foot-7 "two-time Emmy winner."
Sneider has pushed for a smaller Wolverine for years. He wrote that he has "long called for" a Logan shorter than Jackman.
How tall is Jeremy Allen White compared to Wolverine?
Here's the math fans keep doing, using ComicBook.com's numbers:
Wolverine in the comics: 5-foot-3
Jeremy Allen White: 5-foot-7
Hugh Jackman: 6-foot-2
So White would be 4 inches taller than comic Logan and 7 inches shorter than the guy who played Logan for 24 years. Comic fans have complained about a 6-foot-2 Wolverine since 2000. This would at least shrink the problem.
Is there a separate "Star Wars actor" Wolverine rumor?
No. ComicBook.com's headline called the frontrunner a "Star Wars actor," which sent some fans hunting for a second name. That's White. He voiced Rotta the Hutt, Jabba's son, in The Mandalorian and Grogu.
ComicBook.com's story cites the same InSneider report and no other source.
What happened at Jeremy Allen White's last Marvel meeting?
It did not go great, by his own account. White told GQ in 2023 that he once met studio executives about a "kind of Marvel-y movie." Looking back on his attitude, he told Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast last year, "That was out of line."
He admitted it was a meeting he "probably could have handled differently," CinemaBlend reported. When Horowitz brought up the Wolverine fan casting, White praised Jackman's long run.
So if this new meeting happened, call it a redemption arc.
What's confirmed about Marvel's X-Men reboot?
Quite a bit, actually, and none of it includes Wolverine yet.
Release date: May 5, 2028, in theaters
Director: Jake Schreier, who made Thunderbolts* for Marvel
Writers: Lee Sung Jin of Beef and Joanna Calo are writing a new draft, Schreier said in April, after Michael Lesslie's original script
Filming: slated to start early in 2027, Dark Horizons reported
Cast announced at D23 in August: Sadie Sink (Jean Grey), Kit Connor (Cyclops), Christopher Abbott (Professor X), Samara Weaving (Emma Frost), Inde Navarrette (Rogue), Maya Boyd (Storm) and Adam Driver (Mister Sinister)
Here's a fun wrinkle. Calo is a writer and co-showrunner on The Bear. So one of the people writing X-Men has already spent years writing for White. Nobody has tied her to this meeting, but it's a short commute.
Who else is reportedly joining X-Men?
Ben Wang is circling Iceman, Deadline reported Monday, and we covered it. Asa Germann has been reported as Angel.
Another rumor landed Wednesday, too. SlashFilm, citing Knight's Edge Media, reported that Backrooms star Renate Reinsve met with Marvel about playing Moira MacTaggert, Professor X's longtime ally. Marvel hasn't confirmed that one either.
Wolverine, Magneto and Beast are still officially open. Yes, chef.
