Fat One’s Hot Dogs and Italian Ice takes over the old Hot Dog Hall of Fame space on Sept. 19, and the first 100 guests through the door get a free hot dog handed to them by Fatone himself.
Joey Fatone is going to be standing behind a counter at Universal CityWalk on Saturday handing out hot dogs.
Not a photo op with a hot dog. Actual hot dogs, actually served by the guy from *NSYNC.
Fat One’s Hot Dogs & Italian Ice opens Sept. 19 at CityWalk Orlando, and the first 100 people through the door get a wristband good for a free one.
What is Fat One’s?
A hot dog and Italian ice concept founded by Fatone and entertainment manager Joe Mulvihill, backed by Mulvihill’s Orlando company Mulvi Group.
It is not a brand-new idea built for the tourist corridor. Fat One’s started as a permanent kiosk at The Florida Mall in 2016, then moved to a food truck operation in 2018. CityWalk is the biggest room it has played.
The menu leans on creative, loaded hot dogs plus Italian ice.
What did Fat One’s replace at CityWalk?
Hot Dog Hall of Fame, which closed in July after a long run at CityWalk.
That spot was a fixture, built around regional hot dog styles from ballparks around the country. Losing it stung for a certain kind of CityWalk regular, and swapping one hot dog place for another hot dog place is at least a coherent trade.
This fits a pattern at CityWalk this year, which has been steadily turning over its dining and retail lineup rather than sitting still.
How do you get the free hot dog?
Doors open at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
Wristbands go to the first 100 guests, first come, first served. Space is limited, per the Mulvi Group’s announcement, which is a polite way of saying show up early or do not bother.
Fatone is scheduled to stay on after the hot dog service for photos, though the announcement describes that as a limited window rather than an all-day thing.
No word on whether he sings.
If you are already in the area Saturday, a free hot dog from a Boy Band Hall of Fame inductee is a fine detour. If you are coming from out of state for it, you are a bigger *NSYNC fan than most, and that is between you and your calendar.
Either way, the line at 9:45 a.m. is going to look different than the line at noon.
One hundred wristbands, one morning, one former boy band member with tongs.
