WWE is taking a special Monday Night Raw to ESPN Wide World of Sports at Walt Disney World, where John Cena’s new tournament crowns its first champion. Cody Rhodes is in.
WWE is coming to Walt Disney World. John Cena announced Monday night that his new tournament, the John Cena Classic, will happen on Monday, Dec. 14, at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
WWE confirmed the date and place in a post on X during Monday Night Raw in Brooklyn. Cena made the announcement in the ring at Barclays Center. It was his first Raw appearance since he retired from in-ring wrestling last December.
And yes, the ESPN complex is the same sports campus near Disney’s Animal Kingdom where families usually show up for youth soccer and cheer competitions. This December, it gets a wrestling ring.
What is the John Cena Classic?
It’s a tournament, and Cena is the guy picking the field. Fightful and Sports Illustrated report the Classic will play out on a special second episode of Raw, live from Orlando.
There’s a regular Raw that same day, too, from Perth, Australia. That’s why Cena called it “the first time ever there will be two Raws on one Monday night,” according to WrestlingNews.co.
The winner gets a brand-new title, the John Cena Classic Championship. Fightful and Sports Illustrated both say its design calls back to Cena’s old spinner belt. If you watched wrestling in the mid-2000s, you know exactly which belt that is.
Cena first teased the Classic back in May at WWE Backlash. Monday night was the first time fans got a date and a place.
Who is in the John Cena Classic?
Cody Rhodes is the first wrestler invited. The rest of the bracket hasn’t been named, and WWE hasn’t said how many wrestlers will be in it.
According to POST Wrestling and other wrestling outlets, Cena plans to scout talent across WWE’s shows over the next few weeks. That includes NXT on Wednesday, Nov. 4, plus Raw, SmackDown and Survivor Series in Houston on Saturday, Nov. 28.
WrestlingNews.co quoted Cena saying the event “encapsulates every single thing I stand for: perseverance, hustle, loyalty, respect.” The outlet also quoted a moment with Rhodes, where Cena told him, “You’re just carrying it better than I ever could.”
Do fans get to vote in the John Cena Classic?
Fans will get some say, but how much is still fuzzy. Reports say voting will run through Club WWE, the company’s membership program.
Fightful reports members will vote on entrants. Wrestling Inc. points back to Cena’s Backlash comments in May, when he said a fan vote would decide the winner instead of a match result.
WWE hasn’t laid out the rules yet. Our guess is fans will be told a lot more before Dec. 14.
How do you watch or get tickets for the John Cena Classic at Disney?
Ticket prices and an on-sale date haven’t been announced. WWE also hasn’t said which building inside the ESPN complex will host the show.
Raw streams on Netflix right now, so the Orlando Raw would seem likely to land there as well. WWE hasn’t confirmed that part, so check back before you plan a watch party.
If you’re thinking of making a Disney trip out of it, Dec. 14 falls right in the middle of the holiday season at Walt Disney World. Crowds and hotel prices tend to climb around then, so book early if you’re going.
Why is WWE coming to an ESPN complex at Disney World?
ESPN is owned by Disney, and WWE and ESPN are business partners now. WWE’s big premium live events have streamed on ESPN platforms in the U.S. since Wrestlepalooza in September 2025.
That makes a Disney-owned sports complex an easy fit for a WWE show. Orlando also has deep wrestling roots, since WWE’s developmental brand, NXT, has been based in Central Florida for years.
As for Cena, he wrestled his last match on Dec. 13, 2025, at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Gunther beat him by submission.
So the John Cena Classic lands almost exactly one year after his farewell match. He isn’t back in the ring as a wrestler, but he’s clearly not done with WWE.
We’ll update you when tickets and the full bracket are announced. Until then, maybe practice your “You can’t see me” in the mirror before your next Disney trip.
