KFC's Doctor Doom menu, with a black-bun Doom Burger and green lime-chili "Doom Dust," starts Nov. 9 in more than 100 countries. The U.S., India and China are all left out.
KFC is feeding Doctor Doom in more than 100 countries. America isn't one of them.
The chicken chain announced its Avengers: Doomsday menu on Wednesday, Nov. 4, calling it KFC's first global team-up with Marvel Studios. The "Doomified" lineup starts rolling out Nov. 9 in select markets and runs through January 2027.
The catch is in the last line of KFC's press release. The menu "will not be available in the United States, India or China." KFC didn't say why.
That's a strange look for a brand with Kentucky in its name. KFC says it has more than 34,000 restaurants in over 150 countries, so by our math, roughly a third of its countries are sitting this one out.
Here's KFC's Doctor Doom ad, via KFC UK and Ireland:
What's on KFC's Avengers: Doomsday menu?
Everything builds on three new flavors. Doom Cola sauce is a sweet, sticky cola glaze with light smoky barbecue notes. Smoky Green Mayo is what it sounds like. Doom Dust is a bright green seasoning with smoky charred lime and chili, made to be "dusted over anything and everything."
Doom Burger: Original Recipe, Spicy/Zinger or Extra Crispy chicken with lettuce, pickles, cheese, Doom Cola sauce and Smoky Green Mayo on a black sesame bun
Doom Dripped Wings: hot wings dripped (or dunked) in Doom Cola sauce
Doom Bucket: KFC chicken with Doom-themed dipping sauces and Doom Dust
Doom Loaded Fries: fries covered in both sauces, with or without Popcorn chicken
Masked Mozza Melts: three mozzarella sticks with either sauce and Doom Dust
Doom Shake: a vanilla shake with chocolate and peppermint sauce (or green apple), topped with chocolate cookie crumbs
Doom Supreme Fizz: sparkling lemonade with green apple or kiwi syrup and boba pearls
Not every country gets every item. KFC says offerings vary by market, and it hasn't posted prices.
A green-and-black menu for a guy in a green hood and a metal mask. Subtle, it is not.
What are the KFC Colonel Sanders Doomsday figurines?
In select markets, any Doom menu purchase comes with a figurine from the Colonel Sanders Cosplay Collection, while supplies last. There are five to collect, each dressing the Colonel in a look inspired by an Avengers: Doomsday character.
KFC hasn't said which characters made the cut. We're rooting for a Colonel in a Doom mask, mostly for the mental image.
Every Doomified item also comes in dark, iron-riveted packaging with Doom's mask on it.
What happens in KFC's Doctor Doom commercial?
The ad shows Doom looking over New York City after a fight with the Avengers. Every restaurant has been reduced to rubble except one KFC, completely untouched. It runs worldwide in 15- and 30-second versions.
The joke, per KFC, is that the chain cut a deal with Doom on behalf of its customers. London agency Mother made the spot with director Tom Noakes.
Mother's creative leads said Doom "wasn't going to leave KFC standing without getting something in return," Shots reported. Hence the menu.
KFC global CEO Scott Mezvinsky called it "KFC's most expansive joint venture to date" in the release.
Why isn't KFC's Avengers menu in the U.S.?
Nobody has said. KFC's release simply states the exclusion, and Parade, Dexerto and The Fast Food Post didn't get an explanation either.
India's skip stands out a little, because India already has a Doomsday burger. Burger King India launched its own Avengers: Doomsday menu, including a black-bun Doomsday Whopper, on Nov. 3, Dexerto reported.
American KFC fans aren't totally shut out of the Doom business, though. Other chains have U.S. tie-ins lined up.
What other Avengers: Doomsday tie-ins are out?
Dunkin': Doomsday drinks, doughnuts and collectibles hit U.S. stores Nov. 4, along with a new ad starring Channing Tatum as Gambit.
Jack in the Box: a Doomsday dipping box arrives Nov. 5.
Dave & Buster's: it's temporarily renaming itself Doom & Buster's, with the full takeover starting Nov. 16.
Movie theaters: AMC, Regal and Cinemark all have Doctor Doom popcorn buckets on the way.
Avengers: Doomsday opens in U.S. theaters Dec. 18. KFC's menu sticks around into January, so fans overseas get a few extra weeks of Doom Dust after the credits roll.
